Hi all..
In the words of the consultant, "this little boy is doing very very very very well" (yes really, four very's!)It wasn't the consultant we were expecting but it was one we knew - he saw Rhys on the day he was born and was the first to speak to Craig (while I was still out of it) about what happened.
Rhys is now 6lb 10oz - had put on 8.5oz in a week - which is the same as I weighed when I was bornAnd grown 2.5cm, so now 50.5cm
Consultant was really impressed with him. Said if it wasn't for his blood tests, you wouldn't know anything was wrong. He admitted he was a bit baffled as to what the effects of the brain damage actually are going to be because he can't see anything developmentally lacking now/yet. He asked if Rhys smiled and reacted to loud noises (yes on both counts) but was asking in a really soft voice, reassuring me it was okay if he didn't yetSaid all his chest sounds are fine, heart murmur has gone, his kidneys aren't swollen (he just squeezed him round the middle!).
His muscle tone is fine and he did everything the doc expects a normal baby to do. Well, apart from when the doc put him on his front and then picked him up, hands around his middle, and expected his hips/legs to flop down and his head/arms to do the same.. Rhys kept his head perfectly straight and then turned round to eyeball the doc - he nearly dropped him in surprise!
All in all, fine and dandy. They're going to arrange a head scan for the next few weeks to see what's happening now (if there is still fluid in there or if it's drained away, as well as find out more about which bits are effectively dead); other consultant will write to us with the kidney scan results from last week (didn't have them in the file); more bloods next week, then maybe we can restart one med and reduce another (the jabs); and we have to go back to baby clinic in 4-6wks time
Only problem is I was supposed to take his jab with me today so they could do it there and save one of the comms nurses coming out to see us... but I only remembered when I was halfway there!Comms nurse will be round in a minute to see to it.. Stupid mummy!
ETA: Fritha, I did ask about the early weaning and it is the iron, but doc didn't go into much detail as it doesn't apply to Rhys as he's on the iron supplements0 -

My little boy has a passport
:T:T:T:T
So how long did that take to arrive then.......? *asks hopefully*
Make sure hubby appreciates your hard work....sounds like a nice glass of wine is deserved
I would say so - although feeling a bit squidgey round the middle so it'll have to be only one...
.
well done Rhys - elle, you must be sooo pleased.:T
r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
question: anyone used disposable bibs before? Wondering about how to keep luggage as light as possible and wondered if these would be an option. I don't fancy spending my holiday doing loads and loads of washing!
Anyone any other tips?r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Hooray for Rhys! Happy Birthday Bruno and Tara! Go nearly crawlers!
Tine, you might like my story, a couple of years ago I was driving my car when it started making alarming noises and stopped! The nice man from the AA came and rescued me and said the spark plug had exploded! He even gave me it to keep to show people as he said it was a bit unusual! The mechanic was very impressed when I took it in!feelinggood wrote: »I'm really worried about Toby developing unhealthy eating habits, he hasn't really got any good role models
I have the same thing, Himself eats appallingly (MFD you'd want to slap him in seconds!) so I decided to go with blw as I hoped it would help her develop good habits. It's working so far as she'll hoover up almost anything but time will tell!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -

OH took Keira to the park and she started running after the older boys and girls, wanting to play with them, and an older girl said to her "We don't want to play with you, F*** off you b****" and Keira started crying because they were being nasty and then an older boy said "Oh what a big crybaby, crybaby crybaby b****" OH went off his head and said "Oi son, anymore of that and i'll snap you off those monkey bars"
Really am mad, and I hate this area so much. No need to speak to a little girl like that if they didn't want to play with her, they could of just said "Oh we are busy etc etc, go play on the swings"
Feral kids, I hate them. It's all there is round here and the quicker we see the back of this place the better.
I have a name for that sort... adverts for sterilisation
I joined Bizziebaby cos I feel like I'm missing out and I'm clingy like that (plus freebies = good)
MFD, yay for the passport!!! :T and Benjamin embarrassing spotty teenagers! :rotfl:0 -
Elle, fingers crossed that he keeps it up!!! Well done you (yes you because it's you who is putting in all the hard work to get him to this point) I always knew he'd be splashing about in wellies sometime soon! :j:j:j:j
R.mac, never used disposable bibs myself but my mate has and she said they were fine so long as it wasn't an overly messy baby in which case your need plenty of wipes toothink it was just the boots ones she used.

That is wonderful!! I'm so happy for you. Fingers and Toes (mine and Toby's) that the good news continues.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Just took a picture and I'm a bit suprised:
This is what I get for holding LO all the time. Last time I sat him on the floor he went all floppy. Tried just now, and am amazed! He suprised me with the rolling over too, I remembered that I hadn't done any Tummy Time in ages, so I plonked him down and he rolled over!
Excuse the mess, the dribbles and the state of undress, I was a bit upcited and didn't tidy up!Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
LOL Comms nurse has just been.. We showed her the vid of Rhys rolling, then she did the jab and we put Rhys down on the floor for a min. He proceeded to roll over, no cheating this time, then itch across the blanket all the way to the other side, then kept trying to roll again
Nurse sat there with her mouth wide open and we just shrugged (same thing he does every night!).. Sooo glad she saw he could do it
Also impressed with his hand clasping and taking the weight on his legs.
Still not sure if it's cos they didn't expect Rhys to do it or just a baby of his size / age
ETA: Hurrah for sitting up and rolly Toby! :T0 -
