Can anyone advise how to clean a suede jacket old style. I was recently quoted £45 at the dry cleaners :eek:0

In the good old days, when suede shoes were all the rage, holding them over steam (kettle/pan) and brushing them with a suede brush used to clean them a treat.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi johnnytee,
As your thread has dropped down the board I've added to the main thread on cleaning suede where you should find some more suggestions.

Hi all
I have some black boots, sort of Ugg style though of course they are not the genuine article! - although they are proper suede. They were put away last winter looking a bit grubby and I thought I would give them a clean.
Whats the best way to clean them? I dont mind buying a proper cleaner if I need to but dont want to waste money on the wrong one.0 -
Hi YORKSHIRELASS,
I've always used a suede brush to clean my suede boots. It normally works a treat, but the replies on this thread might give your more ideas:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the ideas together.

I vote for the suade brush too! and if you get whitish patches - then black permanent marker often covers up scuff marks!0

My tip for cleaning fat marks off Ugg boots is to sprinkle a little cornflour on the mark and then use a brush. It works a treat. Otherwise just brush.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Hold them over steaming water then brush with suede brush, seems to work and if not then a good suede cleaning spray and brush should do the trick2019, move forward with positivity! I am the opposite of Eyeore :rotfl:0

I always clean my suede boots with Clarks cleaner and renovater followed by their rain guard.
Both are sprays and for the two it costs about £5.50.
They work realy well to clean and then protect and in my opinion well worth spending a little bit of cash on.
Any Clarks shoe shop sells them.
I have suede boots that are over six years old and still look like new using this stuff.
I also cleaned my granddaughters Uggs after she spilt wine on them, they came up like new.
The suede brush is something you'll need too, can't do without mine and they last forever.0 -
Thanks everyone, so I need to buy a suede brush and I might invest in some Clarks cleaner and rain guard too. The boots were quite expensive so its worth spending a bit on them to keep them looking good. Glad I asked the question as I would have probably tried using something else on them and making them look worse!0
