Old Style Daily Monday 17th August

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 17th August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning everyone :hello:
Dtwin2 woke me with a nightmare nearly an hour ago and I can't for the life of me get back to sleep . Have tried reading my book but to no avail. Might get on with some quiet housework in a bit (make some dough and hang the washing on the pulley) in an effort to knacker myself.
Heard lots of clattering at the back door and mummy and baby hedgehog have now been fed. Why they can't eat all my slugs I don't know.
Today is really the last day I have with the girls before their holidays end on Wednesday
They are all organised for going back to school so I said we could do anything they liked today. They chose a girlie day which involves watching videos, curling our hair, giving eachother manicures and making HM pizza and a victoria sponge apparently
. Who am I to argue? :rotfl:
Other than that I'll be praying for sunshine to dry the clothes and for tommorrow too as I have a hundred mile trip to the hospital and I hate driving in the rain .
Hope that Sunnygirl is well and reading this. Also sending love to others MIA, especially Tru, Mrs Mix, Whatatwit and Snowy..... And where has Nessie gone?
Hope all is going well for your DIL Mioliere. Safe journey. x

Morning OS chums
Hi Haribo hon - sorry you can't get back to sleep. I just got up to chat to Tris and thought I would pop on here and see who was about while I waited! Sorry to hear about the storms and your lovely garden- hope it is all repairable. We have been lucky to have had such good weather down here. Yard sale sounds fab and they were certainly selling stuff cheaply enough!
Dizzybuff - that recipe looks nice and HERE is another one that tastes good.
Cranky - put me down for a morning or two, if I am up talking to Tristan then I can certainly get him involved in something!!Bitsy - the cabbage whites have been rife this year haven't they?
Mioliere - How exciting - keep us posted!
Anniestars Mark - I am sure she will forgive you.. at least you have posted once for her! Tell her we are all sending love and missing her!
PenPin - hope you are feeling Ok today

Well it was another sunny day in my little slice of Devonian heaven yesterday. Still no ripe toms but the peppers are getting bigger slowly but surely, and I do have three chillis though they are green and very small! (my OH watered the garden so gave me updates).
I did some baking yesterday and have more planned for today. Made cheese straws, ginger hobnobs and what was supposed to be chelsea buns but for some reason the dough that came out of the bread maker was really wet. I added some flour to stop it sticking to the rolling mat but it wasn't firm enough to roll up or slice so I ended up just throwing cinnamon, sugar and raisons into it and putting blobs on the baking sheet!...:rotfl:They were delicious though.
Well I am just about to put the WM on and also the bread maker as I fancy trying the chelsea buns again to see if I can get the dough to do what it is supposed to this time!
My hairdresser is coming today and I am looking forward to being pampered. Means another no garden day though which is a shame, but I had to book this appt a month ahead for her to fit me in so I am not going to grumble too much!
I hope everyones week starts gently, and warmfor anyone who wants one!

Thanks Diva (and Churchie) for mentioning the garden. OH and I did manage to fix the arch and the clematis has survived. The rest was all just wind damage so everything has been deadheaded a bit prematurely . One pot broken and luckily the 8 foot sunflowers all survived. Crazy weather for August though. We do get bad storms in the winter but we've never had to shut the storm doors in August before

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one up at this hour! Latest news on the baby is that DIL was going to have an epidural because it was all getting too much for her. He sounded cream-crackered, so heaven knows how DIL is feeling! The midwife in charge said that she expected her colleague who took over at 3.00am would be the one delivering the baby. I told DS2 to call as soon as it was born, whatever time it was, so we're still waiting. We managed to get some sleep - went to bed at midnight with all the phones close at hand but DH woke up at around 3.00 (our time, an hour ahead of the UK) and made a cuppa. I've made him go back to bed because he will be doing most of the driving to Caen later today - a journey of around five hours. Hopefully, I'll be able to post the news on here before we leave at 10.30ish.
Haribo - enjoy your girlie day with your twins. Hope there are no more nightmares for Dtwin2.
MSD - sometimes the recipes that go wrong turn out to be the best. Would you be able to repeat the process if you fancied the same results again?!
DH is still going on about the quick-spiced chicken with biriyani I made the other day (from the Econ Gastron programme) because it turned out so well. We had the rest of the rice last night (because I had made loads) with chops and some creme fraiche sauce with leeks and mushrooms. A strange but interesting combination that used up the rest of the veg and creme fraiche that I didn't want to have to throw out.
Dinner today will be whatever the ferry has to offer - the meals are usually quite good and cost around £5.50 each. I shall make sandwiches to eat on the way to the boat. I'll also make some bread to put in the freezer for when we return.
We are more or less packed, apart from the last-minute things. Our Britanny Ferries e-ticket arrived within an hour of booking it - this internet thingy is great for things like that, isn't it?
Well, I'm going to put the kettle on again, get the BM on, and then I shall probably text DS2 (I won't phone this early in case they are getting some much-needed rest).
Will call in later.

Awww, she must be wiped out the poor thing. I hope it all goes well for her once she has had the epidural and that you and DH have a safe journey over.

Yes actually I would I think 'cos we followed the instructions, all but one; the yeast, I think we put in double what we should have! I would also put a bit of icing over the top next time too.. just icing sugar and water probably.
hugs

Morning. Early birds.
I am deciding whether to go to work early today as there are some jobs that probably require my input even though no one has asked me in early.... We shall see. For the moment I have a good coffee and am glad the hectic weekend is over.
OH dragged me off to a boot sale after church. I don't mind a wander about. I came across a winter wetsuit. 7mm thick so plenty warm. complete with a shortie version for the summer or double up for extreme cold. Guy wanted a tenner! So I now have a wetsuit which I don't need. I guess they were fetching £180 new, so I guess I could make a few quid out of it.....
Popped in to Tesco. They will be doubling their club card points from today! I did think however that their prices were far higher than ASDA, so perhaps a gimmick..?
Well, have a good day...NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning All
Safe journery Mioliere.
Its Monday again urgh, lovely and sunny here & its going to be hot so am in the office now trying to get essential stuff done before it gets too warm.
Did a lot of ironing yesterday but mainly had a restful day in the garden. Seemed to wear me out more though.
Today's plan is get out of the office asap, take tesco delivery, make lunch & take it down the beach. I will finish off the ironing as there isnt much & get some more washing done.
DS is back from his caravanning weekend and he had a great time. Didnt bring back much washing though - think he wore the same clothes all weekend
Froze my pork joint yesterday as it was just too hot so had a barbie - kebabs tonight so they can be done on it too.
Best get on now, have a great day.

Kathy, how exciting, good luck for your DIL hope all goes well for her xxx
Looks like it might be a nice day here later on, I am on holiday now for two weeks, so no real rush to do anything today, dd and I are off to see a house later, one of the many we have trawled around , I will find something one day.
Might pop to matalan later, to see if they have any school shirts, otherwise it will be a trip into town tomorrow or wednesday, she only needs shirts and pe shorts, so not too bad, and I also need to make her a hair appointment.
Had a very quiet day yesterday (due to feeling delicate), so lots to catch up on today, washing, hoovering, cooking etc.
Diva your cutney recipe sounds fab,we are off to Taunton on Sat for the week, but will give it a go when we get back.
Have good days all. xx0
