Yes sadly little Iroko went into acute respiratory distress this evening when I picked him up to give him his meds. I rushed him up to my local vets but we couldn;t save him and we made the decision to let him slip away slowly but peacefully under anaesthetic. Neither myself nor the vet have any idea what caused this sudden onset.Vet said his heart sounded OK but that he clearly had problems breathing and his tummy was tender but no obvious signs of digestive problems/bloat/blockage etc. I had been in and out of piggie place all day today and he had been fine and perky. He will be going to Vulture vet tomorrow morning first thing for a PM.and then he will be put next to his mum Whisp in Guinea Grove.
RIP My Handsome Little fella....time now to run free at Rainbow Bridge :kisses3:Flooded 20/07/07.

Poor Iroko - he was a cute looking piggie. Hope you are all ok Wol and the residents of Piggie Palace.
I will have to see about extending my stay and see if I can drive that far without going through London. Poohsticks is about my level of entertainment:rotfl: I lurve bluebells which reminds me - I am going to try and go up the Lickeys with my camera this weekend because it is an ancient woodland filled with bluebells.
I decided to be a good citizen and visit the Neighborhood Office today armed with all the receipts from last year, so I dropped in on them this morning without an appointment..I was made to feel like a criminal and it was no better when I went back for the appointment this afternoon. You should have seen the woman's face when I handed her 12 months' of receipts so she noted on my records that I had been in and that she told me to go away again - it seems that despite all the snotty letters from the council that they have awarded me council tax and housing benefit for this year why don't they just say that in the first place without resorting to snidey letters? (insert confused smilie) I want to earn enough money this year so that I can knock the housing benefit on the head..my council tax will be reduced anyway because I am over £160 in credit with them:cool:
Whilst on my morning perambulations (dentist first and then to Northfield), I was approached by a woman in the street asking me to participate in some market research so I am off to some hotel or other on Saturday to earn myself a £10 high street voucher:cool: I am such a tart when it comes to free money:rotfl:
I phoned up the garage this morning and have booked my car in for its MOT and service (MOT expires on 14 June) and the garage are lending me a courtesy car and because I always put a bit of petrol in there, they are giving me one of their swankier ones. I use a tiny garage which specilises in Motorsports and there are times when I get free tickets to see the owner race at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb:cool:
S'pose I had better think of a coffee or something to eat.0 -

Horace - M42, M40, M25 (anticlockwise towards Gatwick) , A22 (Jn6) .........no way you have to go through London.
If you want to avoid most of the M25 traffic rush hour fiascos: (ie if elays are >1 hour): From the M40 take A404M to M4 and then go M4 West to Jn 10; Take A329M to Bracknell; Follow the satnav signposted Sandhurst/Crowthorne (A3095) til you reach A331 at Camberley and then follow it past M3, Aldershot. until you hit the A3 via Guildford back up to M25 at Jn 10. Then off at Jn 6 to East Grinstead/Forest Row

Iroko really was my pride and joy - my first ever "chocolate" piggie...you don;t see many of those...I was so chuffed when he was born ...and he was still a youngster being only 2 years old

Well "Nice Vet" (aka sexy Italian
) at Vulture vets rang this afternoon - initial PM results show Iroko suffered from cardiac/respiratory failure due to massive fluid accumulation in the lungs plus some involvement of the heart.(no surprise there then
) So either it was caused by the suspected "hereditary" lymphoma or by a similar condition to Charlie (idiopathic chylothorax -less likely). We will know when histopath results come back in a week and will then have to start making some tough decisions about future meds for all the pigs...
.
Poor "Nice Italian vet" - apparently he was told by his staff this morning that I had brought in Ginger...(completely untrue - his staff just assumed). He was so pleased the minute I told him Ginger was OK :rotfl::rotfl:
Unfortunately however Ginger is now going back tomorrow as he is (yet again ) having problems with his wounds...(actually not surprised) ......At the same time I will pick up Iroko... and on wednesday I will choose a plant for Iroko's grave - chocolate foliage methinks
All I can say is - all my lovely piggies have had many extra carefree and loving months (= guinea pig years) on their lives because of the actions/meds we have taken to date starting October last year when Pebble (the first one) went to Rainbow Bridge. Unfortunately it looks like time and tide is now running out. I am feeling relatively philsophical as I have had 6 months to get used to the inevitable....it's still hard though when it happens because I feel so unable to do anything
Not going to open my mouth about the rest of the piggies (Bearing in mind I told nice vet this morning Ginger was fine and then at lunchtime his wounds started opening up and bleeding all over the place....sheesh.....me and my big mouth :rotfl::rotfl:) It's true what they say - Never work with animals :rotfl::rotfl: (can;t comment about children :rotfl::rotfl:)
So now we are 8.........
........and I now have a door on my downstairs loo that shuts properly and is actually NOT like the Leaning Tower of Pisa
Back tomoz....had next to nothing sleep last nght and need an early bed
