We've ditched and switched, and are paying off Npower at £50 a month

My OH has finally confessed he doesn't know how to work the meter you kindly sent us.
I'm sorry it's taken so long to get round to it - he has managed to completely gut and renovate a house in that time - just not mine sadly.
    I'll post it back asap.

The credit card debt is all his from various times when his car has broken down - he's a self-employed taxi driver so he has loads coming out every month and is completely crap at budgeting.

I try my best but it's like dealing with sulky teenager at times. I used to be softly softly but now I open his mail, stick bills to the fridge with big circles round payment dates and generally get on his case.

Ouch - doesn't sound much fun! Meter should be easy to use - I'm in no hurry to get it back, so have a play with it yourself and at least get an idea of the cost of the stuff you have control over! As far as your OH is concerned, tell him that if things aren't being used they should be switched off at the wall, NOT on standby; washing needs to be sorted and done in batches to make sure you minimise the number of loads you put on, and the same with washing up ... unless you have a DW (which should be run full) ... you should stack up your crockery until you have enough to make that sinkful of water worthwhile. Never leave a tap running. Limit your showers to 3 mins or turn them off in between rinses (also, shower at the gym where possible...), don't have baths. And when it comes to winter, keep the thermostat turned down, and only turn it up if you really can't deal with it (give OH a jumper or thermals for Christmas!). I have my thermostat at about 16 degrees, and close the door on rooms I don't use so I can switch their radiators off. Try using something like imeasure and getting OH to record weekly meter readings so you can easily see what you're consumption is.

Lil-me i'm not buying all new uniform for Ds1, all i need to buy are shoes and a couple of pairs of trousers everything else still fits and is in good condition. It cost over £100 for it all last September so it must be good quality to have lasted a year with my Ds. I just hope he doesn't have a massive growth spurt now.

Most of mine are getting hand me downs.. can't beat BHS school stuff.. but the socks are dead and DS2 is in 'man sizes' :D .. so.. has to have new.. which is fine cos DS3 can have his.

Mine all seem to have had growth spurts since easter and needed new stuff.. the sleeves on DS2's sweaters are about 2 inches above his wrists lol.. I did consider knitting longer cuffs but thought it might look a bit silly.

I have a couple of pairs of age 9-10 boys school trousers in need of the hems fixing and an iron if anyone is interested? most are grey but there are a couple of black pairs I think.. All BHS and littlewoods catalogue.

But no, I agree, they don't need all new stuff.. last year when DD2 started the same high school as DD1 she had 1 new polo shirt so she was the same as everyone else on the first day.. after that she wore DD1's outgrown stuff.. now they are the same size!

I need to sort coats too.. I have about 10 that can be rehomed.. Actually that may be a weekend job.. then I can pop them on the facebook swapsies thread... hmm... may add a 'for sale' bit to the yahoo site... hmm indeed...

    thinkety think....

We're pretty good with all of the above - imeasure sounds interesting, what's the craic there?

Apart from me and my showers, tend to shower twice a day as I do a lot of running and dance classes. We never have baths as the bath is titchy, I'm tall-ish and OH is v v tall.

A quick how-to with the meter would be appreciated. How can a man be able to install a kitchen and fit new windows but can't work a titchy lil meter?

Thanks for the opinions/feedback, when we move I will no doubt have some things to give away too as I have only threw broken clothes out this year, well maybe for a bit longer. We have enough stuff normal uniform wise for the first few weeks back apart from DS2s shoes (6.5G with Velcro proving tricky to get!) and socks.

Toots, not 100% but getting there, hoping I can make it home enough to put aside my doubts x a peeky photo of the wall unit he's started building and new carpet th_unit.jpg still got the top boxes to build which are half as high as that again. The gloss black doors still have a film over so look quite dull there, covering can stay on until we have moved the rest in I think. LR/DR are like two boxes sitting almost next to each other, that is L/room wall (unit is 2.4m wide), behind there is stairs/front hall door, to the right is the dining room part, all very open plan downstairs....you can just see through the kitchen door, kitchen full of decorating stuff.
One day I might be more organised...........
