  • I'm currently under the remaining contract so I have happily accepted the previous offer and they have put me back on a 12month contract starting today.

I currently pay 24.45 for medium broadband, medium tv and free evening and weekend calls with virgin media, this includes line rental. I have just been offered a v+ box and the second box installing upstairs for an extra £10 a month (also with a £30 installation fee).
Do people think this is a good deal?
Rang Sky and they couldn't beat it. Offered me broadband, same calls, tv and sky in 2 rooms for 36.25
  • Maybe ask for the XL Tv package thrown in for the same price. It's worth a shot just to see what they say.

Hi, I'm on Virgin broadband only (XL) and they rush me £36/month. :o

When I complain they take it down to £29 for six months. I think this is way too pricey - any thoughts out there?

How much should I be paying for this?

    Broadband (any) (am paying £18)
    XL TV (am paying £22)
Extra set-top box (am paying £5)

    I get £3.50 discount + £1 e-billing discount, for a total of £40.50

They have all three for £14, but its only £10 mb broadband. I just read on another thread here that someone only pays !10 for their broadband!. I think it all depends on if virgin media like you or not, i think they are muppets to be honest :D Phone them again :T

    I pay :-
    Line Rental 11.00
    Talk Unlimited 7.95
    XL TV 22.00
    XL Broadband 37.00
    1 V+Box 0.00
    Free Voicemail 0.00
    1 Normal Box 15.00
    Ultimate Triple -21.00
    Add Box Discount -10.00

    Total 61.95

Is this about right? The package also includes free Setanta Sports.
  • The phone isn't worth paying for - BT costs the same for better deals (especially on third-party call providers). Check you haven't got physical cables installed already from a previous occupant. We did, but they had to be upgraded. They don't pay the installers anywhere near £99 for the installation (it might take one hour if you're unlucky), so if they've got an easy job of it, haggle.
The broadband is poor in the sense that you can rarely use the speed advertised even if Virgin's network isn't too congested. What's a lot worse is that the upload speed is really poor - a fact of cable internet life, unfortunately, but they do it better in other countries, so it's Virgin's fault too. Their cheapest deal is now regressing and only offering 384kbps upstream, which is awful. I'm on "500kbps" - matched with 10Mbps download (1:20 ratio when proper businesses use 1:2 or 1:1) and it's already too slow to deal with the traffic generated.
Isn't a Freeview hard disc recorder good enough for TV? I DIY fitted a good aerial for about £60 including installation to 5 rooms. I'm in a strong signal area with no interference.

Sorry, can't agree with you about the BB. I have used it for years and I think it's really good:T
