Hi
I'm looking for help and advice as I signed up to Virgin in October 08 but have noticed on the website the bundled deals they offer for new customers - the difference is massive.
Current Package:
Line Rental = £11.00
Phone L = £3.45
TV XL = £23
Sky Sports = £19
Broadband XL = £37
Total = £93.45
Loyalty Pack = (-)£22.70
Total = £70.75
New Customer: SAME PACKAGE
Phone L = £3.45
TV XL = £6.00
Sky Sports = £19.00
Broadband XL = £6
Total = £34.45 (£44.95 on the website but i assume the total factors in the Line Rental):mad:
I spoke about downgrading too but the cost of V= Box goes up to £5 and the Sports package up £5 etc.
The guy said to call Cancellations/Customer Relations between 8am and 8pm BUT my question is - do I have any power as I'm 7 months into the contract and so threatening to leave isn't really an option. My tactic was to haggle based on : "5 more months at these prices and I'm off" or "give me a good deal now and I'll stay". Can Virgin Mobile deals be factored into these negotiations as my Orange contract finishes soon and I'm looking for a good deal for my partner too?
I'm sorry if there's a similar story/advice in previous threads but it's late!;)
Cheers

Hi Wayne,
Just call them and see what they say - you've got nothing to lose. Call 150 and then Option 2 and Option 2 again which takes you through to 'thinking of leaving'.
My tactic was just to keep mentioning Sky, lol, and saying how their deals are so much better (you get much more for your money and their packages seem to be improving every week). Their line rental is slightly less at £10 and you can get all the channels (excl. sky sports/movies) for £21.50 and free broadband and free talk. The Sky+ box is free and it was free installation when I rang too (I think it's gone up to £30 now but don't tell VM that, lol).
The guy I spoke to came back saying that their V+ box has double the storage and can record 2 programmes at once whilst Sky can only record 1 - so basically their box is much better than Sky. Also their broadband is much faster too. I guess you have to take this into account, which is why I eventually agreed to the price I did. (I did manage to get the cost down with each call I made). Just keep saying you can't afford it, lol, and you'll have to think about it.
You can always ring back and speak to someone else who might offer a better deal.
I don't think the fact that you've only been with them for 7 months will mean they don't still want to keep you as a customer - especially considering the money you are paying them! I have to say that really is a lot! Are you locked into a 12 month contract?
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi
Yep, we got a leaflet thing. Looks like a normal virgin media flyer, but has the bill payers address on. You have to go to www.virginmedia.com/gofaster , log in with your username which is just your email address, and password. If you don't know it, they'll email you it
Don't forgot to sign up to v stuff once registered (thats what it says)
The email i sent last week?. Well a man called yesterday, and he said he'd got the email. So blah blah blah. Getting the phone out will only save me 50p a month whatever he said, i don't remember, it was poo anyway
So in the end, he said he'd up the net ( i was on 2mb, then the update to 10mb) to 20mb
No price cut on the phone or anything else. Looking though 10mb is only £15 a month anyway. The last bill we got was for £20, a new price on the net. So all he has done is lowered the price to what it should have been
20mb is £20..... so really he hasnt done up any favours at all!.0 -
Ive been acustomer for 5 years (back to when they were telewest) I wanted to change my package as i noticed that the new tarrifs are much lower (after reading on the forum) but as a loyal customer I cant do thart unless i sign up for a new deal.. Fair enough i guess but we rent and i dont want to comit to another 12months as I'm looking for a new job and if i move I don't know if Virgin cable will be available at the next place.
I checked with Virgin (then NTL)on several occasions on that issue. If you have to move your accound moves with you. If you move to somewhere you cant get Virgin they will release you.0 -
Hi folks!
Ive got a bit of dilemma here.
I have been using Virgin Cable broadband, and very happy with it. But now I am moving into a non-cable area, that means i need to get the broadband through the phone line.
Now, here is the problem: I do not use landline phone at all, so basicly I will have to pay the line rental + broadband that brings us the cost significally. + i think Virgin want to charge me 30 pounds set up fee, and wait, since its a new service its a new 12 month contract. ( my current contract has about a month to go, so I would gladly keep on using cable broadband WITHOUT having a new contract)
What are my options? Is there any other providers that include line rental?
I am really not looking forward to a 12 month line rental + 12 months broadband contracts, because I move house a now and then. Mobile broadband is not an option.
Caqn anyone advise me on what to do? ( I have seen a tiscali offer of £15 p/month with line rental, but it looks like it might not be in my area, but cant be sure cos i dont have a phone number, although there is a BT phone plug in the new place)
Thanks!0 -
Hi i just wanted to check if you lot think i've got an ok deal at the mo, because vm wont seem to budge on it:
XL TV
Extra box
XL phone
Call Waiting
2meg bb-going up to 10meg soon
£50
Does anyone have the same package cheaper, and how much should i be aiming to pay for it?
Also, thinking of downgrading my phone and goinw 185185 or someone. The landline is used 2hrs a day or so. In peoples experience would this be a better option?
Thanks0 -
This is my first post in this section of the forum. I would really appreciate any advice from the knowledgeable folk who seem to offer sound advice from what I've just read.
I have had the Virgin media VIP package for well over 12 months now so should be well out of the contract period. I am getting the full TV service including sports and movies, Phone is talk 24 unlimited if I remember correctly, and Broadband is supposed to be 20Mb. I also got the extra point put upstairs and use the old box up there, whereas the point downstairs became the new position for the V+ box.
I am paying about £88 a month for all that and would like to keep that sort of level of services but with a reduction in the monthly cost. I have seen that I could get a BT line reinstalled for free upto the end of June and am aware that with a BT line your phone/TV/Broadband options are much better. Things like TalkTalk spring to mind.
Can anyone suggest a provider for all or individual services that would make a saving on my current monthly payments. Thanks in advance for any help received.0 -
Just got myself an upgrade.
Got my bill for the month and it had gone up. I had been a bit unhappy at what I was paying, but hadn't got around to changing yet - but £37.75 for M+ TV (the box is unplugged in the corner), L phone and 2Mb broadband seemed a bit steep. Apparently they had put the price up because they would be upgrading me to 10Mb broadband in the next few months.
Nice of them really.
So, spoke to a nice Scottish chappy - and he instantly starting pulling things off my package, and first offer was £25 for 10Mb broadband, and freeview telly. Asked for the price for 20Mb, and he came up with £31.
Now, that is the price for new users, and what I was looking for. So, we have done the deal.
The real kicker, they have got me on 20Mb within 20 minutes - but I would have been waiting a couple of months for 10Mb, that I was paying for.
Now, I am on the much faster deal and paying £6.75 a month for the privalidge (once I sign up for the e-billing).
Plus, I had a nice chat with the guy about Linux (I am a Linux nut, and have nothing but Linux on all my many computers) and DRM in video files. Nice0
