  • Hi all,
I am looking into the info Glam provided the other day wrt taking calcium leading up to labour etc.

Just wondered if anyone knows if just calcium tablets alone are ok, or whether you need ones with vit D or magnesium in them too- searching vitamin websites gives so many options and I am now confuddled as to which are the ones I should get  If anyone is already doing this, which ones did you get? H&B have some calcium and magnesium ones on offer just now 100 tabs for £2.59 hence the question (500 mg Ca and 250mg Mg so would need multiples and wouldn't make the 1800 mg precisely but close enough I reckon).

The arnica tablets are more expensive and so far can only find them on H&B other websites seem to ionly do the gels.

    Thanks Ladies :D

    Hi Nanc,

Well done on the breast pump. The event doesn't actually start until tomorrow does it? Or is it today? If so, I will be heading to Asda after my midwife appointment.

Jessica is a lovely name. Don't be put off because it's popular. I recently read some statistics that showed that names in the top 5 in the 1960s made up a high percentage of names in the country (e.g. 20%), but nowadays because there is so much choice, even names in the top 5 only make up about 1%.

These stats are just examples as I can't remember where I read it and what the figures were, but it was quite interesting. You assume that there must be 10 Jacks in a class because it's been the most popular name for years, but I don't think it's that bad really!

I shall check Boots then - never tend to get stuff like that from there as they always seem to be muchos expensive!
  • I think the vit D is to aid absorption? (like vit c for iron) Would have thought can't do any harm to get a pill with both?

Am off now for a walk to see if that helps :D

Boo, I thought Lexie was uncommon name but is on the list in 2 forms (I remember that another lady on this thread used Lexi earlier this year). I have liked it since the character Lexie in "Monarch of the Glen" from years ago (am guessing it might be bit more popular now due to Lexie character in "Grey's Anatomy"?? Love that show!).

Yup, vit D for absorption, but read somewhere else that magnesium should be there too when taking Calcium so that the ration is 2 x Ca to 1 x Mg. I just wondered that if we're taking 3 tablets per day for example that is also 3 x all the other vitamins/mineral in the tabs so wasn't sure if that would matter or not?

Hugs Aless – sorry you and hubby are having a hard time. You don’t seem the type to get down if there’s nothing properly wrong, so thinking it must be bad. I guess things will work themselves out. Really hope your DH gets stuff sorted with his work though as I think it’s very stressful when there is bullying or even perceived bullying in the workplace.

Harley – glad your appointment went well and just get bouncing on a gym ball!

    Update from midwife appointment:

Midwife was checking position of baby to see if it had moved down any. She thought she could feel the head down in my pelvis and the spine up my left side, but then kept thinking she couldn’t be sure. After a while of prodding etc, she asked if she could give me an internal to check that the baby wasn’t breached. I said, yes, that’s fine. If she couldn’t tell, I was to go for a scan tomorrow (I have only ever had 1 scan at 12 weeks).

So she gave me an internal (which was uncomfortable, but not sore, so must depend on who does it!) and said that baby was really quite far down and she could feel the head so all was good. I am also 3/5 engaged. She said my cervix was very thin and everything was looking good and she might as well give me a sweep whilst she was at it as she had almost done it anyway! I agreed, so had a sweep!!! She is hoping I will go into labour in the next 48 hours and doesn’t think I will be back for my next scheduled appointment next Monday. She was soooo excited – even more excited than me, who was in a bit of shock!! I think she is dreading next Monday as there are several of us at 39 weeks and so she has a busy day of sweeps, but she was really excited at how far on I appear to be. :T

We then talked through labour options and I told her that the midwife taking the Parentcraft classes had told me that I wasn’t to labour in the birthing pool if I didn’t plan to give birth in it. She was really annoyed at this and has written in my notes that I am very keen on birthing pool and agreed that I should just lie and say I intend to give birth there. She kept saying “I think you will do really well”, so not sure what that means, but I hope I do well too!

Sorry for the long post – just a bit excited that things could be happening when I didn’t expect it! :j
