Not sure if it's in any way related or if this helps at all.
I was also sent along to a consultant obstetrician at around 18 weeks ( nearly 3 weeks ago) and noone explained why beforehand.

As it happens, in my case it was because I have arthritis and so they wanted to check whether I may have any other auto-immune problems that I'm not aware of. I got the impression if you have any slight medical issues whether or not they've caused you any problems up until now, they're just just acting on the cautious side to see whether it may have any other implications. I had to have some extra tests done just to make sure so that we can preempt them before they become a problem.

    afternoon all!!

had a lovely lie-in today. got up to take meds at 8.30 and went back to bed finally waking up at 11.20. so thats near enough 11 hrs sleep. must have needed it.

no pain in back today which is good. no other early labour signs either. baby is hanging on.

talking bout cars- DH tried fitting the car seat in ours and its a nightmare.car is far too small. (3 door) how people have fitted car seats in a mini is beyond me!! he can put the seat in, but will be near impossible to do so with baby actually in it!!! then the passenger seat needs to be as far forward as possible. which is ok as i'm small, but not ideal at all. can fit in front seat as well. (no airbag, so safe) but then you have to have the seat back as far as possible, which means me, sat cramped.DH doesnt feel safe using the car and baby seat either. His mum has insured him on her car for a few weeks so he can use that to bring baby home from hospital. so... we're gonna have to get a new car. said to DH just get a 5 dr. and then we'll take it from there.

we dont know now whether to use the mortgage money (we've still got 4 months of not paying) to buy a new car with the cash or pay off our remaining debts and be debt free but no new car....

i cant drive anyway so would mean say, me doing asda shop on wed (DH day off) and getting taxi back if large shop. or going every other day with baby and pram/buggy. just a nightmare if we all need to go somewhere. so in theory we could wait but we dont really want to. really hope our PPI claim comes through!!!

  • Thanks jha - will do!
Jillie - have you tried using a seat base? My car's 3 door so getting the car seat in and out would be a nightmare without the isofix base - that just clips in and out - simples!
MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

ml- we thought bout seat base. the car seat we have got is one that came with the travel system we bought.

a britax seat (1st one) will fit in with the additional base, however once baby has grown out of it, the next size carseat wont fit in the car model/make we have.so in 9 months (or less) we would be still in the same situation. and not have had enough time/cash to save up for new car...

tbh car is on its last legs anyway (well needs work doing that would prob cost more than the value)

During my last pregnancy I had to see a consultant because of my BMI as they thought I was "at risk". According to my midwife they send you to see one if there's anything that might be considered risky so previous problems, being overweight, family history of pre-eclampsia etc.

I think we come under the same PCT so I hope that helps.

  • Welcome back Weezl. Luvverly news....my BILs are only just over a year apart and they're really close- much more so than to my OH who is five years older.

We did too lol, in our defence, our other car was dying, and it made sense to get a decent sized one to replace it?

We have a Bravo, still not that massive though lol but we made sure the boot was a nice size, with 5 doors as well, it made sense to us to do that lol

csh - is it nice? cos I love that with chips and rice, can I be sad and ask you how many calories is in a packet?

    Labour vibes ML :)

Glam - I just knew as well lol, weird isnt it

We were the same- needed to change our car anyway, found out I was pregnant so traded our little Clio for a big family Mondeo! After we told people we were expecting they said the family car purchase was a bit of a giveaway!

Ditto what MoosMummy said- there are all sorts of reasons that you would be put under consultant care, or joint MW and consultant care, so best to give them a quick call to find out why you've been referred. Give them a call now if you haven't already or you'll be wondering all weekend!

Only five working days left for me.....:T. So flipping excited now, although I have so much to do. I've just resolved to do as much as I can and then not worry about the rest. If it's important it'll get done by someone else when I'm gone, if it's not then who cares :rotfl:.

I am so sore today though- probably the worst I have been so far. I think that the positions the MW gave me to try and turn the baby from back to back have really aggrevated my SPD, which is nice. Hips and back are just so sore, I am so glad I am nearly at the start of ML otherwise I'm not sure I could cope.

On a very positive note my OH is cooking a big old roast tonight and I cannot wait. He makes a delicious roast and I only had a fruit salad for lunch so it will be very much appreciated.

I can sympathise with the SPD pain, I had it last time and it's supposed to get worse in future pregnancies

consultant care can be for a variety of reasons.
one of the hospitals in my PCT for example, if its your first baby all your appointments are at the hospital. so then you are under a consultant. doesnt mean there are any problems/concerns
