We are one of the sad people who did go out and buy a new bigger car, when it became obvious this pregnancy was going to stick. Even worse, it was the Q7
In our defence, we will have 3 children, 1 in a booster, 1 in a baby seat and 1 able to go without either, and just wouldn't have been able to fit the whole family into our previous car which was an Audi A4. Also having a people carrier means that when baby is born, I will still be able to participate in shared school runs or take some of the children's friends on outings with them, without having to bother another mum to come too just to have enough seats in the car.
There isn't though any real need to have an SUV rather than a normal people carrier and I hold my hands up that this is an indulgence. When we did the test drives though, the Q7 was so much nicer and easier to drive than the Zafira, Galaxy, etc that we succumbed to temptation.
Don't underestimate though the amount of stuff you need when travelling anywhere with a baby. Once you have the pushchair in the car, its hard to fit anything else in round it, and there will be occasions when you'll need to get at least one suitcase in too, and probably some form of travel cot. That will definitely test your Krypton Factor skills in a smaller car!0 -
speaking of car boots, we MUST be doing something wrong b/c our Chicco (which all the reviews says is good b/c it folds up really small) didn't fit in the generously-size boot of DH's car! We wound up putting the back seats down to get it to fit, but I think it's b/c the seat on the pram was facing the wrong way?? Always thought he had big boot but now am thinking otherwise!
In for a stressy afternoon...DH has been "summoned" for a mtg w/ his boss...long story, but he's been bullied a lot lately at work and they totally seem to have it in for him. Don't think he can get the sack as it's not a formal disciplinary hearing, but I know this is the last thing he needs as he is totally fed up with the place and only staying b/c of baby coming. I love my hubby but I really really hate that he works in sales...it's just so stressful when things aren't going perfectly as all the companies are just high pressure. Sorry, don't mean to rant it's just a frustration in my life that never ever seems to go away and makes me wonder if we'll ever be financial secure...
I've always wondered...can your waters go in the middle of sleep and you totally don't know until you wake up in the morning??top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

ML,
consider spending some time on all fours (something under your knees will help!) and gently rock your bottom from side to side.
Sometimes a slow start with very little respite can indicate that baby needs to turn a little to be optimum position for delivery.
All fours will really help with this.
HTH,

I bought a big car tooI traded in my 2 seater Smart soft-top for a Hyundai Santa-Fe.
There really was no point in us getting a medium sized car as we do need a lot of room in the back. DD is nearly 13 and taller than me! She doesn't want to be sqashed in beside a baby seat and and tonne of other crap and the shopping! Our pram is big, SX sleepover, it takes up the whole boot of our Seat -Leon. It fits great in the new car boot along with any shopping, or even the dog if we're taking him out.
Plus we are planning on having another baby sometime in the next 2 yrs :eek:0 -
yeah, i can imagine that there are circs when you need a larger car (DH's is an estate so no worries for camping hols etc) but for everyday running around with one or even 2 kids, I reckon most ppl could do fine with something smaller. If you only have one car in the family then can appreciate why you'd get a people carrier (not an SUV though - am pretty anti urban 4x4s tbh, sorry Nikki!, and often they have less room than a saloon or estate. DH's boss has less room now than in his old Mondeo!)
All I meant really is that this immediate assumption that you have to get a monster car as soon as you're PG for the 1st time is a bit odd. PPl tend to use whatever space they have available anywayMFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Just quickly, coz I don't know when to keep my mouth shut (!!!), on the car debate, I think if you have a small car and can't afford or don't feel you need a bigger car then that's fine. I am sure that you will manage. However, if you are buying a new car anyway or can afford a bigger one, then why not make life easier for yourself and get something with more space?
My SIL found out she was pregnant. She got rid of her Corsa (she wanted a new car anyway and this was a good excuse), but she bought a 2 door Punto. The seats in the front don't go forward enough to get any baby car seat into the back without ramming it, which you clearly can't do with a baby in it!! So she will have to use the front, however the front doesn't have Isofix (the back does which seems strange). She probably had more space in the Corsa!
Another friend who had a baby a few months ago, would not trade in her beloved Mini. She bought an I Candy Cherry which fits in the boot apparently for those looking at smaller prams. However I think she is finding it a bit of a struggle as she can't get much else in the car or take more passengers if DH and mother etc are there.
Right, shutting up and leaving now! In my medium sized car!! lol.0 -

Csh – chips and curry sauce for breakfast!?!? Ha ha. I think you are too late on for cravings and it’s just an excuse!! And where on earth do Chinese take aways open that early!!?
This has been my only on/off craving throughout! From about 4 wks its all I wanted to eat then i'd go off it for a while then HAVE to have it again!!
I'm not even classy enough to like the stuff from the chinese, its got to be the cheapie Asda packet curry sauce mix that you just add boiling water to :rotfl:
Hello, I am Charlotte and I have an addiction0 -
Fitzio - yes of course! If you're in the market for something new then you can do what you want. What is odd is that ppl expect that you HAVE to go and change your car when you're PG. I have had comments from loads of ppl to that effect
Edit: watch this space - I may be eating my words in a few months' time!! Prob is I do like a bit of grunt so wouldn't want the stereotypical mum's practical car!MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Some of the 'optimal foetal positioning' gurus recommend chunks of 30 mins, but if you can do more comfortably then go for it! The only thing I'd say is do cushion your knees well, I had 2 camping mattresses under my knees in labour, but my kneecaps still bruised a bit. I started on just cushions which may have been the problem. Have you got any thing squidgy? Or can you go all fours on the bed?
