Ahh I forgot.....I'm on two per day and I hate them - you can't drink tea in the 3 hours around when you take them (I keep forgetting this) and if you look at my post above regarding why I don't wear thongs!! Be warned, they are the cause!! So make sure you get your bran and drink plenty of water as I don't recommend them!! I've never suffered them before in my life until I started these tablets (obv. being preg makes you more susceptible (sp?) too. However, they're really important I'm afraid in case you lose a lot of blood during the birth and they have finally got rid of my horrible restless leg syndrome.

Harley/Fidget, I am on iron tablets too. Is it Ferrous Sulphate you are taking? I am on 3 per day although midwife said I am only borderline low HG so not overly important. I wasn't aware of not taking tea when taking them? I keep forgetting to take them and thought "it's not that important anyway", but then I read about losing blood during birth so trying really hard to remember 3 per day!
So it's 3 per day of them and Raspberry Leaf capsules. And it will be 3 per day of the heartburn tablets too. I am rattling!
  • oh and i forgot to say to 32b,,,,big hugs to you hun,,,,,keep that head up and everything will be fine xx

I feel like I'm rattling too! Yes it's Ferrous Sulphate - I was taking a natural supplement from boots called spatone originally (2 sachets per day) as they are ok in pregnancy and I thought they might help with the restless legs/tiredness and keep anemia at bay. However they didn't and I ended up on iron tablets anyway grr!

If you drink tea or coffee (I think it's only ordinary caffienated ones) 2 hours before or an hour after taking the tablet it can interfere with absorption apparently. If you don't take them too you will keep getting a low reading and they will keep nagging you to go for more blood tests :(.

I keep saying I will start the RLT today but I never seem to manage it...something must be putting me off. It's currently gathering dust next to the ginger tea I bought for morning sickness lol!!

I must find the pump so I can blow up my exercise ball too.

Also, Glam if you're about you will know this. I am interested in taking calcium tablets for pain relief and also because I'm worried as my last pg seemed to take it's toll on my teeth and hair much more than I expected. Are normal calcium tablets the ones you took or did you take special pg ones or (am I being silly)? I noticed that most of them come with vitamin D which I'm sure is something to do with aiding absorption but I didn't know if you are supposed to avoid too much of that in pregnancy (like they say you shouldn't take vit A).

Seriously what have i done to deserve all this bad luck.
DD has managed to lose her phone and it has pics on it that i wanted because OH was fiddling on comp the other night and deleted my copy, now they are gone too. They were amazing pics of my mum back combing her hair and pinning it just like they used to in the 60's70's lol

One of the mums said today my bump was showing didn't think it was noticeable yet

    :j:j:j:j:j
Lets hear it for neighborhood kids. We/they found the phone.
We got them to space out and walk like a search team and we kept calling it. wohoo Think i may need to get them all a treat tomorrow. finally something good.

Not heard about tea/coffee interfering with absorption of the iron, but midwife did recommend taking them with plenty of fresh orange as this will help with absorption, so maybe try that too.

I didn't fancy the RLT but trying the capsules. They smell a bit but are fine apart from that. No idea if they will help though! Not going to bother with calcium or any of the other stuff. Will maybe buy Arnica tablets for after the birth.

Don't really fancy taking any more pills than I have to though even if they are herbal/vitamins! Just trying to improve my diet instead. Having beef bourgignon for dinner with lots of green vegetables!
  • I am on Iron tablets but just one a day which I take after I have eaten my breakfast. Apparently it is better to take them after eating and not on an empty stomach.

I am going to try the RLT but not sure I need to start yet (32 weeks) will maybe get some in.

Congrats to Glam and WM - will try and catch up with the goings on to find out what I have missed.
Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)

Kindof - KIT days are "Keeping in Touch" days which are done by mutual arrangement with your work if you want to basically keep your hand in. They are not compulsory, but if there is an important meeting/training course etc that you don't want to miss and your manager is happy for you to attend, you can agree to go in for a day or a few hours.

I think your work will pay you for the hours you work (but if you only work 2 hours, it still counts as 1 of your allowance of KIT days). It's not really worth it financially whilst you are on fully pay with CS though as they are already paying you and won't give you extra. However, if you really love your job, you may choose to work it anyway for your own benefit.

You will probably find more info on Direct Gov website.

Yeah i've heard of tea affecting the absorption of iron. I was badly anaemic once and doctor said not to drink tea with food, but to drink orange juice as it helps you absorb it
