I`m really freaking out, I had a phone call late yesterday from the community midwife asking to see me today for a booking in appointment at 12.30
I agreed and OH should be arriving at any moment to be here with me as I terrible in unknown situations etc. What happens at your first appointment???
Is it all just questions and forms or is going to fight with me about needles??? My OH has briefly explained and had it added to my notes that I will agree to one blood test in the middle of my pregnancy but nothing else invasive but I`m so frightened.
What if she takes one look at us and thinks we`d be terrible parents.

I refused the 'booking bloods' and the 20ish week blood tests, it's your choice and they have to just accept that.
Make sure you tell hubby to back you up if they start to try and change your mind, while most MWs are lovely I met one that gave me a lecture and told me lies  to try to get me to have them. I told her where to go and complained about her but as soon as I walked out I was in tears.
As I say though all the other MWs were lovely, I just experienced a b1tch :rolleyes:0 -
Random question, if you refuse the bloods, do they treat you as though you have HIV or whatever they test for, just in case?0

I was treated no different to the first time I gave birth when I had had the tests.0 -
I would, you don't know what grubby poor child labour has made it and what pesticide it's been sprayed with!
yea after I posted I thought 'Well, you've washed everything else that's new so why not them?!'
Cheers hun!

As for being treated like you have HIV at least then you know their hands will be properly cleaned and gloved lol lol or is that my paranoia at it again
Just had a look at the leaflets the hosp sent me and it says "If you choose not to be tested, please tell your midwife of your decision. This will not affect the care you receive during your pregnancy. If you change your mind you can be treated at a later date"[STRIKE]Little bump 3 on it's way[/STRIKE]:j

Hi Nikkit, don't worry, it's not the most comfortable procedure but it's not painful and you are in and out quite quickly. My OH came in with me and it was good to have him there.Mum to DD born Oct 2009

And now my big news - my older sister just had a baby girl :j:j:j
She started contractions yesterday afternoon but nothing too bad until 5am when she went to the delivery ward and was 7cm dilated! Baby arrived at 8:15 weighing 8lbs13 (she was only 4 days over). My sis didn't have time for pain relief so it was a natural birth and didn't tear or need any intervention. I hope my labour is as quick! She rang me at 9:30 to tell me the news and sounded a bit in shock  she kept going on about how she was told to breath while pushing put couldn't and just held her breath while pushing! Can wait to go see her and the baby girl but they are up north and I'm stuck here for OH's brother's wedding this weekend.Mum to DD born Oct 2009

Congrats on becoming an auntie Jenny! Sounds like a good birth too. Any names yet? Hope you haven't been arguing over who gets what name ha ha. My brother and his girlfriend are due 10 weeks after me, and they are pretending they won't tell us their name preferences in case we steal them!
It's been quiet on here this morning.
I went to my breastfeeding workshop. It was quite good, but I didn't learn much more than I already knew from being on here. Most of the girls on the parent thread were very pro breast feeding so I have learned loads here which was good. Don't always agree with opinions on here, but it's good to learn nonetheless! The one thing that did come up today that I didn't know was that you can develop lumps in your breasts when your milk comes in. The midwife said you should check regularly for lumps and try to smooth them out by running your hands over the breasts to push them to the fore. She said if that wasn't working you should try an afro comb!!! I wondered why she had an afro comb on the table!
Whilst she said they want everyone to breastfeed and covered all of the benefits and problems to try and encourage everyone, she did say at the end that if you have problems and really don't want to do it, don't be afraid to tell the midwife as they would rather have a happy mum and you should not feel guilty about it. I think that was good as there is so much pressure on women.
Tonight it's Parentcraft class Round 3. I know I said I don't nap, but I might have to go for a lie down. We watched 2 videos on breastfeeding and I was wondering why there was a baby sucking on the back of another baby's head. Then I realised it was because I was so tired, my eyes were going together and I was seeing double!!! Just about managed to stay awake ha ha.0
