Agreed. I noticed this when our local one stopped selling certain Value items like the 10p stock cubes in an attempt to force you to buy the cheapest alternative they had which was £1 approx - TEN times the price... Didnt work in this case. I just stopped making soups as often as I used to. Pity cos they were cheap, fun to make, healthy and a pot lasted me and my flatmate days of meals and stuff to freeze.

erm... At £1 for a packet of stock cubes couldn't you still buy them if the soup you made was so economical? I don't think you can blame Tesco for you stopping making soup.

Other than the crafty way they price things (like coffee being cheaper in smaller jars than bigger ones), I like Tesco and do the bulk of my shopping there.

Wow. I get 2 weeks notice to book and holiday I've been saving up for. I don't think the papers reported the change in Virgin/Cosmos etc. Lovely thread. Smug people accusing others of hysteria. I get a glowing feeling.

I guess you are refering to me when you say "people" acusing others of hysteria...not smug at all, just realistic:confused: The changes must have been reported somewhere or noone would know about them ?!

  • Tesco claim to give 4X value voucher deals with Cosmos Holidays - this is a con based on my recent experience. I checked on the internet a Cosmos holiday available at £3,600.00, the Cosmos brochure max price at the height of the season (when I wasn't going) was around £4,000.00 - but when I phoned through (which you have to do - no internet booking facility) on the dedicated Cosmos Tesco voucher line the EXACT same holiday was quoted as costing £4,600.00 not £3,600.00! This meant that I was paying a "false" price in order to use my vouchers and devalued their worth to approx. 2X value! When I complained to Tesco with these details they didn't want to know - so watch out for this sharp practice which surely must be illegal?

I know now. But how many look at the website regularly? Anyway, I know now.....
Just a thought...if I was saving for something long term, I would probably check the T&C periodically. I use Club card vouchers for my MOT (2 cars, once a year each) and I check every now and again to make sure nationwide haven't pulled out. If they stopped i'd be disappointed but woudn't fdeel the need to wail too much, it's been great for the last 3 years i've been doing it!!

I may be one of the few but I like the reward scheme and I do see it as a treat too.I save for a couple of years to get the most off a holiday I wouldn't really be able to afford otherwise. The changes don't affect us too much as we're a family of 5 so 5 x £700 is £3500 off the cost.If its true that I could get 3 points for every £ on the cc+ it certainly wont take long to rack up the maximum amount off the holiday reward. And no we dont have heaps of accounts either.

Same thing happens on many of the products Tesco offer extra points on. The recent champagne 'promotion' was a case in point. They were selling this for a price more than double what it had previously been sold for. The offer was 800 points but many people didn't even get the points put on. Another one was toliet roll- put extra points on it and effectively doubled it in price. It's all a bit of a con TBH...

I do check the T&Cs every so often. But two weeks notice via their website is hardly going out of their way to inform people who would have done a lot of saving. I do agree with some of the comments about Tesco supermarkets and so just use my credit card and petrol on the whole to top up my account as it doesn't cost more. Whilst I do have the benefit of the whole 2 weeks. Others may be on holiday etc. It's bound to upset quite a few people when they find out.......
I've said enough. Sometimes people have to agree to disagree.

I am constantly surprised at the hostility Tesco's most loyal customers have towards them. If you don't like the prices or the loyalty scheme (bearing in mind no other supermarket offers anything like the value that CC already does), don't shop there!

Hi Timmne, I would like to say that I dont have any problem with Tesco ( I do work for them after all) but I feel its within my remit to express concern that whilst they have done a wonderfull thing with doubling points they are likely to penalise those who have been saving for a while for a special holiday ( I hope that airmiles stays as is :D )

I could predict the first twenty posts in any Tesco thread. I could start a thread saying "Tesco are to halve all prices" and people would all of a sudden revert to the staff being rude, the buying being unethical or the parking being limited again. There is no pleasing some people and you know who you are!

If Tesco deals do diminish in value then !!!!!! spend them - they're free money anyway and if you're stupid enough to have been shopping there just to get the vouchers then you're probably not going to cope with stress of them devaluing either. If on the other hand you're one of the dirty lot who have multiple accounts and do your best to screw the rest of us over when Tesco have to devalue the scheme, you should be ashamed of yourselves. No doubt these people are the ones who are now complaining, at a guess.

I am pleased that you are so level headed but it is a shame that you feel it neccesary to generalise everyone who is entering the debate as cheats.

My wife and I collect these points but have never thought of them as any more than a treat - you need to get out more if you spend your life worrying about them.

    I will attempt to chill

Your initial complaint wasn't that the terms and conditions had changed, you complained that Tesco hadn't informed you. When we pointed out that they had, you still complain even tho admit to having no idea how long the notification has been on the website. You don't even know that it is Tescos fault that the terms and conditions have changed - it might be down to Cosmos!!
