What I'd like to know is where to get insurance for one of these. There's one link to a (rather basic) website of a company advertising that they insure electric scooters, but that's it.

Consider something like an electric bike ...no tax. MOT or ins required.

    IIRC Sinclair does one.

that is a top notch deal. everyone should have one. save the planet and money too

Where does the 8 hours of electricity come from that it takes to get you 30 miles on one of these?

Potentially worse for the environment than unleaded fuel!

While electric vehicles remain so inefficient and require so much charging they are not the answer at this time.

the charger regulates the amount of current to charge the batteries. The 8 hours charge time doesn't necessarily mean its using a lot of electricity to charge up. some mains electricity is already produced from renewable resources and it is technically possible to use a solar panel or small wind turbine at home to recharge this type of scooter. in addition the lead batteries are recyclable, although old technology compared to the new lithium ion types. your aggressive and disimissive tone is a sad reflection on how threatened some people feel by electrically powered transport

  • I am all for green, but currently electric vehicles aren't doing it.

Lets get something that runs on hydrogen/water then your talking..

LOl, solar electricity/turbines are all a big con by the panel/turbine salespeople.

Proper evidence shows they are neither cost effective nor particularly green [eg for £5k you can do a lot of 'better' green activities].

I don't think there was any aggression shown in the other post, that's just silly. Maybe you're being too touchy.;)

Perhaps it wasn't aggressive as such, but it was certainly dismissive.

Purely electric vehicles may have a a while to go before they reach maturity, but there are some very good hybrids out there, especially given how much more fuel efficient internal combustion engines have become, and they just seem to keep improving.

The continued evolution of the petrol and diesel engine is key, because whatever happens, while there is oil in the ground it will continue to be pumped - all we can do is make better use of it than we have been.

Same goes for coal. We all enjoy the benefits of a global economy based on fossil fuels, no matter how much we try to kid ourselves otherwise.

yeah, sorry, the thing is that once you have owned an electric vehicle you know how good they are or can at least see the potential once batteries etc come down in price, become lighter and have greater capacity and lifespan. nissan is launching the Leaf electric car soon, the technology is already there, its just bringing the product successfully to market.

i own a similar electric scooter, its great. i also have a 3 litre twin turbo mitsubishi with a huge thirst for super unleaded petrol so im no hippy living in a wigwam

as for the small wind turbine issue, yes they arent much good unless you live in a windy location. Good for running L.E.D. lights and the like though

anyway, for an electric scooter this particular grabbit's a bargain.

its good to have this debate, saving the environment means more than rationing plastic bags at the supermarket checkout.
