These type of cheap scooters have been on watchdog some months back, some are dangerous and hard to put together. Definitely cheap and nasty.

I read other day that the batteries dont last very long both on mileage and around 8 months before they need replacing

Yes exactly - they are cheap for a reason.

Having said that, I think at the moment China lead the way on battery technology, and they are soon to release a cheap car here that can run for 200 miles between charges.

Fair play to them (and no, I'm not Chinese).

    :D

EDIT: I'd love to know where somebody goes to buy an electric scooter that ISN'T made in China?

    Are these road legal??

I thought if they could do more than 22mph they were classifed as a pmoped and needed tax and ins etc.

    soryy..answering my own question...

yes they are a moped. .....and need insurance [£100-200 typically per annum]

You need to register them with the DVLA - costs another £55.

If they last 3 yrs [highly unlikely IMO], then they will need an MOT...chances of it passing [even when new]....zero....lol

Lütz Pangaloo - try looking for 'British Eagle' maade by Falcon Cycles who are based in lincs. We got a bike of theirs from Asda mispriced for £50 last year , but OH reckons they should be around the £150 mark - either way worth looking up.

  • In the long run - eco wise, be better to buy a cheap, 2nd hand 50cc moped I think. Think CO2 footprint on new electric scooter, new batteries every year or so (lead, acid - urgh!).

I looked into this a LOT and there are soooo many options with electric powered scooters...To cut it short - this one wouldn't pull me (6foot and 15 stone) up a slight hill to 30mph. Therefore - not for me!
The one I looked at was a VECTRIX electric bike. More ($11,000 - yes thousand) expensive but much more useable!
This one MAY be ok for pootling around on. Would love to here from someone who has one!
Another worry is I can't find a review on the web for the Xufeng!

Yes, Asda have some cheap BE bikes at the moment, but not the exact size or style I was after.

I'm sorry if it wasn't clear from my first post, but I have bought a bike for my daughter, so I don't need any recommendations thanks (in fact after I've bought something I make sure I stop looking, just in case I see a better deal!).

    :rotfl:
  • Not very eco friendly is electric scooter if nearly all the energy source came from burning fossil fuels

"and to be more environmentally friendly by reducing emissions"

A friend at work bought a cheap electric bike thingy. 1st time on it the battery died half way up a long hill, so he thought "no problem, I'll revert to the pedal power back up system". Problem was one of the pedals broke off!!

Had to push it the rest of the journey to work.

    How we all laughed!!!
  • I've been looking at alternative transport, I've found even cheaper ones then this, but the truth is that there is so little information and support on electric driving products I decided against.
