Hi guys,
I hope you dont mind me joining in this thread, i've been following on here for ages but have not actually posted on this one til now
I wonder if any of you can assist me with something!
I bought a skirt from Matalan the other week and i cant find anything to go with it LOL
http://www.matalan.co.uk/fcp/product/fashion-to-buy-online//Mini-kilt/7258
I'm a 36 year old mum of 2, (currently SAHM) size 10, dark(ish) hair styled into a bob, (if that makes any difference LOL)
Either im really boring or have must completely lost the plot (probally both :rotfl:)
Can anyone throw some suggestions around please.
I know you all tend to look fab, so here's hoping you can help me.
Seems a shame to take the skirt back when i really like it.
Oh yes, just for the record, i dont normally wear skirts, might be why i'm having trouble
Thanks guys xxx
Hi Squibbs25 and welcome to the thread! :hello:
That's a very cute skirt - I reckon it would look cool with a black tie neck blouse or black twin set with thick black opaques and biker boots. XXX0 -
Welcome Squibbs
I agree 100% with goan and her suggestions! It's a lovely skirt, I had one like it once, I wonder if I still do?!
I feel a wardrobe clearance coming on.0 -
which colour did you go for? there seems to be both brown and red on the link..
either way..i'd say if you have the brown one, go for some black tights, and brown boots..Maybe Uggs, maybe flat leather boots, as if the skirt is short I think heeled boots could look trashy with it, unless you have fabulous legs you need to show off
Other than that, I'd dress it up with a black top, a bright necklace (I'm thinking big costume jewellery..or charms on a chain..) and a chunky cardi - try Primark, maybe an oatmeal colour..
If it's the red one, I'd still go with the black tights / leggings, maybe boots, or perhaps some flat ballet pumps..black maybe?? And dress it down with a black top, cardi or shrug, and a red beret..0 -
Thank you for being gentle with me.
The skirt is the brown one, i wouldn't be brave enough to go for the red.
As for the boots i picked these up at the same time
http://www.matalan.co.uk/fcp/product/fashion-to-buy-online/Boots/black-immi-suede-buckle-detail-bicker-boot/7053
i 'think' they go ok together, that's why i'm unsure about a top.
Thanks fo ryour suggestions so far, if you think the boots are a no no please tell me.My beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0 -
Love the boots - exactly what I had in mind, and Goanmad too by the looks of things..
I'd just go for a plainish top, maybe lopng sleeves due to the current weather, in a brown or a black, and a nice chunky cardi..there are some lovely long "boyfriend" style ones around at the moment, and the rest of the outfit lends itself to whatever colour you choose..0 -
He peeps how are you all this fine day? My outfits pretty simple atm, its just:
Blue and white striped bodycon vest dress (Topshop via ebay £5) but I'm in a really bouncy mood cos I'm actually having a good hair day! I don't know what happened but I feel like my waves are looking good today, isn't it weird how the littlest things can shape your whole mood?
Anyhow, welcome squibbs25, the skirts cute and I like the suggestions everyone came up with.
I wonder if I can pick you guys brains as well, I have a grey marl wool cape at the back of my wardrobe and as apparently capes are coming back in this season I really wanna get some more wear out of it this year.
The only trouble is the colour as I'm kinda feeling the whole black but different textures look (have't actually attempted it yet but its the winter look I aspire to), and wondered if anyone had any experience of dying wool, or even just of dying black, is it hard to get a true black? xxStarted Comping 25th September 2013.

Hi squibbs - I just want to agree with what everyone else said. Those boots are just the thing to go with the skirt with some opaques or leggings. When it's chilly or you want a slightly smarter look you could put a black skinny roll neck with it.
LiR - What about yoga type trousers? Or are they not thick enough? Combats would be great if you like them.
Goanmad - where do you live?? I'm really impressed that you get to go to mid week boot sales. There's only one big one in my little town and that finished for the winter at the end of September. There's a smaller one in town, which was rubbish but I'm hoping will improve now it's the only one.
I'm in work all day today so am wearing:
burgundy vest top - ancient H&M
burgundy, v-neck,fake wrap around, lacy knitted jumper type thing! - Bay 7 years old I worked out this morning
grey high waisted pencil skirt - Primarni £13
black opaques - Tesco
black mary janes - DP sale £140 -

I live in the Midlands and the car boot sales I tend to go to regularly are in Cannock, South Staffs and the field in Lichfield where that amazing haul of Anglo-Saxon treasure was unearthed. The car boot sale I go to on a thursday is definately my favourite, it's open all year round and as it's held during the week it's mostly old ladies so I have no competition whatsover!! As the season gets more advanced it does tend to be more market traders than booters although there's a hardcore of house clearance guys who sell vintage bits and pieces at an absolute pittance (usually 20p per item).
It's approaching the peak season for jumble sales now so most of my finds are from there during the winter months - even after years of attending them they are pretty frantic and scary.
Erichamster - I've dyed wool succesfully with a Dylon "Hand Dye" kit. Make sure you weigh the cape first because if you don't use enough the results will be patchy. Wilkinson's usually stock them.0 -
Afternoon Everyone
Work today so
Black and white long stripy Tshirt from Primarni
Black trousers - Topshop
Black dolly shoes - Primarni
Yellow Scarf - Dubai
Tis very cold today!!!0 -
I think people in the Midlands must be more stylish, goanmad. We probably would find a few old, stained M&S tshirts round me.0
