JTB - firstly welcome
The best thing to do is empty your wardrobe and try everything on, if it's too big ebay it, if it's too small and you'll never wear it (even wen you slim in to it), ebay it - that'll give you some funds to buy new things.
With what is left make up some outfits and blog the pics (or pics of the clothes if you're not comfortable taking a photo of yourself, but photos of you wearing the clothes means you'll get more feedback)
Nothing wrong with newlook at 35!
For me its about trial and error, but I've found everyone lovely on here to give feedback and advice.
Good luck x and there will be more savvy people along soon to offer more/better advice x*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
welcome new people
Finally dressed:

Nude colour silk blend tee: h&m via friend
Black leggings: new look
2 x grey cardis: new look + primark
Black ankle boots with buckle detail: dorothy perkins

Hello (peeps head round the door to see if a lurker can join in ?
)
I'm hoping you can all help me as I'm having a major wardrobe/self-image/style issue at the moment.
I'm in the process of losing weight (for the umpteenth time !) and I desperately need some advice/guidance as I feel I've lost my way a bit.
I don't even know where to start ! Probably the basics would be good ....... size 16 (almost!), age 35 (so New L**k clothes probably now out - mutton dressed as lamb springs to mind ), red hair, 5ft 7, pear-shaped and large thighs .
I've been picking up things at CS/Ebay/Jumble sales that I wouldn't usually entertain wearing and some have been disastrous while other's I don't think look too bad. I can't seem to find my own sense of style ....... I'm a bit of a walking disaster at the moment ! :rotfl:
So any advice would be very much appreciated. I shall aim to take a photograph of myself this evening and pop on my blog. I absolutely hate my pic being taken but if it helps you wonderful ladies to get a better idea of what might suit me, then so be it.
Thanking you all in advance ..... xx Love all your blogs btw, they're great !
NEVER stop shopping at shops cos you think you're too old, just pick the right things. I'm 40 and have got more adventurous as i've got older and really only in the last couple of years have i got my own sense of style and had the confidence to wear it, so maybe this is you getting to that stage.
.I'm hour glass shape size 12 so have big thighs on my heavier periods.. and i'm short, but found wearing knee length dresses in nice interesting fabrics and fitted at the waist and top half generally works to disguising big thighs just add interseting boots and opaque tights, so this might work for you too?. Lucky you, having red hair and being 5 foot 7- you must look striking, i'm jealous:DGrocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
Grocery challenge November : £291.65/300.00 NSD 10

Morning everyong. Jtb recommended this thread to me too so as the others are joining now I thought I should say hi too. I've only read back two pages so far but am glad I found you:)
I love clothes and my friends are always asking where I bought this and that. I love bargains: jumbles, charity shops, car boots, eBay buys and some high street thrown in. I also have a shoe and vintage handbag addiction. I'm a 12/14 pear too and have got a gorgeous cullotes style jumpsuit from River Island (£29.99) which suits me so I can recommend that. Its bright orange with black leaves on it. I wore it saturday night with a gold rope belt (£1 New Look sale) and black shoe boots and got lots of lovely comments.
I'm not properly dressed yet, still in PJs as its too cold, so will add that laterNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550 -
Queen, thanks so much for that advice - it's a great place to start and I'll do it today/tomorrow. I'm usually a black trousers and top kind-a-gal so trying to edge away from the norm and wear some 'brighter' things for a change. I do have to be careful of my choice of colour though, what with the red hair !
medsdemon, yes I do post on the car boot thread, I'm addicted ! lol Thanks also for the comments, I do think I'm getting to the 'stage' that you mentioned, although it might take me a while :rotfl:. I might even venture into New L88k later this week. I think I need to work the red hair and height to my favour but having yo-yo'd with my weight all my life, my self confidence is severely lacking so I need to get my head sorted too.
Hello jesa :hello:, xx
Ohhh ! Today's clothes are (pretty boring really :undecided):
Black trousers
Cream/black striped jumper (Next)
Knickers (obviously !) :rotfl:
and black socks ........ see I told you I was a disaster ! :rotfl:
I'll take some pictures later (when hubby gets home) and pop on my blog (which is a new one btw, I deleted the last one because it was rubbish - self-image thing again ). I promise I'll keep this one going though.
Right, mango chutney making is calling me (got 10 mangoes last night at Mr T reduced - 13p each) ....... I'll check back in later xx :jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
JTB- have fun making mango chutney, tis the only chutney I love
Looking forward to seeing the blog!
Wow, lots of new faces, this thread has grown so much lately0 -
I do have to be careful of my choice of colour though, what with the red hair !
IMO red is the most beautiful hair colour, and you need have less fear than you think. reens, blues, anything autumnal, purples, yellows....you have as much colour range as the rest of us. I think sometimes red heads are conditioned to fear colour as already stand out because of it..0 -
totally agree with Lost, embrace red hair, especially if it is natural...so utterly gorgeous, my biggest regret is trying to cover up my natural red with dye only to pretty much destroy it0

morning all, stoppping by whilst i wait for another lot of drawings to upload:
today's outfit..totally uninspired..
"photographic" (??) floral print dress, primark
black cardi
pink rose brooch
purple poetic licence shoe boots with turq. heel/bow detail..
ETA - welcome to the new people..
and i'm very envious of all this cooking recently0 -
Thirding LIR... redheads can get away with loads of great colours.
People saying they need to disguise their chunky thighs... no! Be proud of your body diversity, damnit. Stop contributing to the homogenization of the female form! Be proud of your curves! Vive La Revolucion!! Ra ra ra.
Outfit for today:
Red and fuchsia/purple smocked muumuu (Antik Batik for La Redoute)
Fuchsia suede belt (unknown)
Silver squares belt (unknown)
Dark blue straight leg jeans (Ethel Austin)
Multi stripe knee socks (unknown)
Black mary-jane Docs (DM website)
Silver lizard ring
Silver snake ring
Flashy faux-diamond necklace
AB crystal drop earrings
Silver fishy earring
Broken both the belts this morning, the suede one was huge and finally snapped due to me tying it further up than it's supposed to be tied - managed to salvage it though as it still ties, though slightly differently, and is now actually a better fit. The silver one had some of the chain snap off, probably due to advanced age, but again I can still fasten it. I also had to re-pierce one of my ears this morning as it had closed up, I can't believe it would do that after only four days of not using earrings. Bah.
Oh, and welcome to the new peeps! :A"All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.
