*****TIGHTS ALERT******
Now I've got your attention - Miss Selfridge have a sale on and have some funky tights reduced to £2 - £3. There is a free delivery code on the codes board too. Got this info from Grabbit board - off to look more!0 -
I don't think she's too bothered to be honest but her mum is putting her under pressure to get everything organised (is there such a thing as MotheroftheBridezilla?). We've only got as far as the colour (black) and making it something that all 3 bridesmaids like so that we can wear it again if we want. We both quite like this one but we haven't even started looking properly yet.
I haven't worn a proper dress since my prom (2001, eek!) so have no idea what suits me. The shopping trip will be...hmm...interesting? I'm still not fond of changing room mirrors (or standing next to the bride (size 8, big boobs, gorgeous) - it's a good job she's my best friend!)0 -
Vicki- uh-oh, I was trying not to spend anymore money, but I might have to now
Alex- I love that dress0 -
But lir's final comment is very sensible (as usual!)
The only thing is it depends on being able to find a REALLY good dressmaker and the dress. If there are seams to match it gets trickier...with patterns...and then boning etc can also pose a problem I guess. Over a biggish size change (possible over than lengh of time with how well Alex is doing) length of bodice etc might need changing too....
Thinking about it I'd say to the friend that you are staying on your diet, and you don't wnt to make her life awkward so you suggest she opts for a simple style that can be taken in if need be. Then stick to the diet. If, by some amazing master storke you are waif like then then budget to replace dress yourself....with friends choice of course, my guess is if you plan the expenditure and it is for a smaller not larger dress you'll not mind
Also, I think it wise to be cautious: which I say with some caution, because it is very assuredly not meant to be a dampener on your acheivement or the strength of your resolve to continue. But you have steadily lost over some time time now...your body might slow down loss for a bit, or stop for a while and then pick up losing again after a break. In all likely hood, it will continue donwards as it has, because you are the model of commitment and success, but my aution is to plan to avoid frustration and disiilusionment, because with out them you will do better.0 -
Oh crumbs, I've just been told we're going bridesmaid dress shopping at the start of Jan. Hmmm. The wedding is at the end of May. I'm currently a size 18 - do I get a size 16 dress and get it taken in if I lose more, or just stick to my guns and get a size 14 (which I'm hoping to be by that point)? Either way I'm not going to enjoy the actual shopping
Ahh, I'm sure all will be fine. As everyone has suggested I think getting a dress one size smaller would be perfect for you. Two sizes and you may find it hard to fit it, and if that's the case you don't want to feel uncomnfortable on the day, my friend bought me a bridemaid dress without being able to try it on... yeah, she got me a size 6, no idea what she was thinking as I'm a definate 8. It turns out that size 8 had sold out and 6 was half price so she thought I could squeeeeeze into it. I managed to get the zip up but couldn't breathe the whole night!Well, I could be really miserable today, both BF and I have with stinking colds, I've got the biggest zit in the world, a huge iron burn on my hand that's gone manky and I still don't know whether I'm going on holiday in 11 days time BUT the sun's shining, my Wii age is 10 years younger than my actual one and we're out with friends for the next three nights so gonna keep positive
I feel for you goanmad, I've got a stinkin cold too and we've got a weekend full of partying coming up. Not so fun when I can speak/breathe through my nose! Hope you feel better soon and you manage to go on hols!(is there such a thing as MotheroftheBridezilla?)
Mjy sister has one!!! My word, her MIL organised everything and took so many liberties I don't know how my sister managed to stay sane!
So today I'm smack bang in the middle of my flu. Again, in flu outfit:
Red fleece
White fisherman pants
And that's about it. I have to start packing for my weekend away later, hope everyone's having a good day!Foreign politicians often zing stereotypical tunes, mayday, mayday, Venezuela, neck

I agree with Daisy Alex, get the 16 and get it taken in. Then the pressure's off if needs be (although I'm sure it won't!)
On the subject of New Look, I'm a ditherer. I love the shoes (though they are going more expensive, particularly on the boots, but you can still get classics for a reasonable price) but the clothes are always a bit too trendy for me. I don't know if it's because I have a body shape that only really works in tailored clothes though.
Back in work today - bit mental as both of my bosses are out today so it's just me in the office - and today's outfit is:
- Black V neck three quarter sleeve jumper with black and white stripy shirt insert (Next)
- Black pinstripe straight leg trousers (Dorothy Perkins)
- Black brogue style lace up shoes (New Look)
- Black military style flared jacket (New Look) to come into work
- Multicoloured stripey scarf, beanie hat and mittens (Accessorize) to come into work
- Brown leather handbag (21st birthday present from parents)
- Usual jewellery (birthday/Christmas/graduation presents from parents and boyfriend)
Hair is tied back in a ponytail, perfume is Marc Jacobs Daisy and nail polish is Nails Inc South Molton Street.
In work until around fiveish, then home to do my workout and watch the final of The Restaurant.

That dress is just so gorgeous, wearable, elegant, flattering, and black is so much better for masking lumps and bumps bits than something in a light and shiny fabric !! I'd be breathing a massive sigh of relief at her good taste, having seen pictures of bridesmaids looking extremely uncomfortable in their outfits. It is in sale though, so buying a different size later in the year might not be an option.
I'd be very optimistic re weight loss, if I were you, Alex. I lost weight like you at that age (are you in your 20's? have I got that right?) and didn't really stall at all. Do you exercise atm? You have always got that up your sleeve to up-the-ante if you need to later on. There's always the magic underwear to help things along too. Ooohh I'm so excited for you!0 -
Alex, why don't you go into Coast and try a size 16 dress on to see how far away from it you are now. If it's just a bit tight, then you could go for the 14. If you're a good way away from it, get a 16, then you could get it taken in if you do lose more.
You've done absolutely brilliantly so far, but sometimes the last few pounds can be a bit stubborn and you might be at the in between sizes stage then. If you pop over to the weddings forum, there's a dressmaker called Linda (not sure of her full screen name but she's easy to find) on there who gives great advice, plus she's made some fantastic stuff for people.
Dasiyb, love the dress, you could get all sorts of different looks out of that - do not send it back! Re the lace top, charcoal grey would look good under it as well.
Just about to brave the snow (!) to do some food shopping and I'm feeling very Cossacky atm - currently wearing:
Folky/Russian type multi coloured long sleeve tunic with tiny bells all down the front - New Look a few years back, cost either £1 or £3.
black leggings
light tan Frye boots (TK Maxx bargain)
I've had some great end of line/limited edition bargains at New Look - in the past I've had a fabulous teal and silver sequin kimono sleeved top, quite Goldfrapp-y, for 50p, today's tunic, white, purple and yellow prom dress £3, Tatty Devine weather symbols charm bracelet £1, tea dress £3 - it's well worth a rootle through the sale rails if you've got the patience.
Goanmad, what you need is a HUGE hot whisky toddy. You too Zara!0
