Goan- oh man at some people's comments!

We have a new charity shop just opened here
but suprise, suprise it's hugely overpriced once again, there were some gorgeous clothes in there including my dream dress in my size and everything
but it was over £10 and I just can't afford/justify that

(I think the cheapest item I saw in the clothing section was a t-shirt for £5)

    Hi Grammargirl!

I think it was a new venture- made my day. Mind you, from chatting to the stallholders I don't think it was most people's cup of tea. Although a highly recommended trip, The Clothes Show does attract a depressingly mainstream kind of crowd and the sellers had such charming comments as "Yuk, it smells", "Looks like a charity shop" and "It's not very designer-y is it?".

How can vintage Dior, YSL and Ossie Clark NOT be designer?

Rich pickings for discerning shoppers like us but not so much fun for the stall holders!

There is a lot of tempting new stuff, the highstreet can be excellent, but things I love I still have a niggling regret that I am one of many wearing this item. Its very depressing. I'd love to be a better clothes maker, really I would

Oh, how annoying! £5 for a teeshirt is downright mad. I moan about living in a grim Midlands town but with the huge unemployment rate the prices in chazzas are kept low because of the genuine need of shoppers.

I felt really sorry for the vintage sellers at the Clothes Show. I hate that attitude - if shoppers don't like it why not just shut up and move on? Iit's such a long and tiring day (speaking from experience) the last thing these guys need is negativity!

Hi all, good to see everyone's well.

First up, happy birthday Goanmad. Sounds like you had an absolute ball! Loved the dress. Lucky you getting to the Clothes Show - I love the orange shorts.

Daisybella, I know what you mean about charity shops. We had a new one open recently and the prices are shocking. Some I swear would have cost less new! On the upside, they haven't cottoned onto the men's stuff yet and I've picked up Charles Tyrwhitt and Thomas Pink shirts up for around £3 (kept the Thomas Pink one for myself!).

I've got a couple of favourite out-of-town local charity shops, who are really cheap, and I've had some great finds there. Sometimes it's the less inspiring looking ones that prove most fruitful.

I've just bought a stunning long black 70s dress which will see me over the party season at Xmas/New Year. I took a chance being 70s it'd be smaller than it was meant to be, but if not I could probably alter it, but thankfully it has come up two sizes smaller. Might need a bit of tweaking and taking up a little. Think I'll probably wear it with a black shaggy gilet on one occasion.

Currently wearing (because I'm not long back from a brisk walk)
    Nike faded black cropped pants
    grey tshirt
    zip-up hooded top
    trainers
    thick socks

I'm definitely up for the Clothes Show next year! I'd be most likely to go on the Monday though as I have a mental block about going anywhere at the weekend as everywhere is so busy. I just hope they don't decide the vintage thing was a bad idea and do away with it.

Today for working at the charity shop I wore -

    black flares
purple stripy jumper (going to the CS though as it is too short and I've spent the day tugging at it)
    black leather flat Mary-Janes
    black wool cardi-coat.

I was very naughty and treated myself to a pair of black real leather chunky heeled Mary-Janes in New Look. I don't usually venture in there but I'm glad I did, they were only £16 and came in my barge-foot size 9.

Have a good evening everyone x

    Sounds stunning!

Mariel - We did a Monday as the thought of a weekend at the NEC filled us with dread. It was still horrendously busy but at least there were seats left on the train.

Kirsty Allsopp's new series starts on Channel 4 later, all about Xmas decor - I loved her "Home-made House" series, our tastes are so similiar. She's the only only person whose heart misses a beat when they espy a vintage teatowel!!

I've just watched that and I am really hankering after some of those glass baubles.

*repeats to self, "Must not spend any more money on Christmas stuff"*

Glad I haven't missed too much while I was away at the weekend (went to Leeds on Saturday and Castle Howard on Sunday, t'was lovely :D ) - hope everyone who's been having problems is ok!

lir - yay for the jeans being too big! Such a wonderful feeling isn't it?

I've just had to bin a pair of black trousers as I put them on and they literally fell off me :rotfl: I did manage to find another pair that are big but not embarassingly so, so today's outfit is:

    Black trousers - Dotty P's
Black tunic - ancient, can't remember
    Red cardi - Matalan
Black sequinned pumps - again, so ancient I can't remember
    Cream scarf.

Not terribly exciting but I have been so stupidly busy recently that I've had no time to do washing and ironing and am having to raid the dregs of my wardrobe :o
