Hello Consultant31! Tell us more, where are you off to? Is it a cruise or a hot, exotic location?
Are you after a tailored jacket with floaty trousers/skirt or a boned, strapless top?
What colours do you have in mind? What's your body shape like?
Where do you live?
Presumably you've searched eBay. Do you have a Littlewood's Clearance store near to where you live? Our local branch has a great choice of "dressy" clothes at very good prices. TK Maxx is always good for occasion wear as do those out of town discount villages (Cheshire Oaks or Bicester).
We're going on a cruise - first time so very excited. However, I'm not one for wearing 'posh' gear as a rule, so really don't want (and can't afford) to spend loads on an outfit I'll probably never wear again.
Well, what can I say: I'm well past the age of consent, lol and the body shape is not what it was so I'm looking for something that will skim over the lumpy bits without making it look as though that's what I'm doing IYKWIM (size 16). Colour doesn't really matter but I'm not looking for tailored stuff. Something pretty and feminine, perhaps with a wrap or bolero to cover the tops of my arms.
I live in Yorkshire, not too far from Junction 32 where there's a Klass, Roman Originals and Autonomy so I should be able to find something there, but that elusive 'something special' doesn't seem to be instore at the moment.
I have looked on eBay, in fact I've bid on a couple of things but there seems to be a problem with Goofbay whaich has meant I missed them while I wasn't around to watch the auction. I haven't seen a Littlewood's clearance around here - sounds interesting!
Thanks for your input, hope I've given a few clues as to what I'm after, though I don't really know myself (sorry I'm so awkward, lol).I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

Have you a Monsoon in a ''discount shopping place'' anyhere near? They are brilliant for coverups. I get through all sorts of smarter things with a monsoon short kaftan: over white linen trousers for smart casual, over jeans for less smart casual, over a swimsuit for pool side smart and alone for round the house. Mine pay for them selves several times over. Tescos also does some nice ones occassionally: I have a slamon pink one from tesco with is lovely.
re tops/cover ups: I have a couple of cashmere boleros which are simialrly useful: I can wear them with smarter thing in the evening, or over tops with jeans: might be worth spending a little more if its something you can use afterwards with your normal at home casual wear?
I'm under the impression you'll need at least one proper vening outfit for a cruise...by which I sort of mean dress: it is possible to get ome lovely jersey evening dresses : monsoon had some last season which will be in the discount outlet by now I think: they deamnd good under wear, but then, I wear them at home as house clothes, when they are past their best: with, er, less strucural underwear.
also: depending on where you arecruising bear in mind shore wear: some of the cruises do Turkey/egypty areas: where on shore you'll need really to be covered to knees and to have something to cover sholders/no low tops.
Another really good place to look is TK Maxx, but youneed to be patient and go through every rail: and I rarely am that patient.:o0 -
Morning all!
Work again today, and rather a lot to do - after the madness of last week it's now onto the mundane tasks that got a bit neglected whilst I was insanely busy. I've also got a job application to finish and another one to start (note to self: must buy 'how to be better at the maths bit of grad scheme applications' type book).
Anyway, today's outfit is:
- Candy pink scoop neck jumper (Topshop via sister)
- Black flower corsage on left shoulder of jumper (Topshop)
- Grey pinstripe wide leg trousers (Zara via sister)
- Black Mary Janes with chunky heel (M&S)
- Black wool mix military style flared jacket (New Look) to come into work)
- Rainbow striped scarf (Accessorize)
- Brown leather handbag
- Silver initial necklace (Tiffany, Christmas present from parents)
- Silver watch (Storm, 21st birthday present from boyfriend)
- Silver and diamond ring (Hot Diamonds, 18th birthday present from parents)
- Silver bracelet with black and pearl-style beads (graduation present from parents)
- Amber and silver ear studs (20th birthday present from boyfriend, bought while he was travelling in Europe)
In work until fiveish, then home on the bus (which means a wait of God knows how long as there are roadworks on my bus route so it keeps getting delayed), workout and relax.
Have a good Monday everyone!

Morning folks, it's a bit chilly this morning, to say the least.
Hope everyone's had a good weekend.
Went to an antiques fair yesterday and managed to pick up some bits and pieces for a lot less than I expected them to be. Got a fab black 70s bell sleeved top for £3, a Victorian shift for £1 (need a little repairing) and a lovely 60s boat neck cotton sleeveless top in the most gorgeous swirly colours for £2. Also got some lovely bits of costume jewellery for next to nothing as well.
Anyway, thought I'd go for a bit smarter today for a change, so currently wearing knee length short sleeved knitted black dress (had it at least 15 years)
purple cardigan
black wool tights
long stretchy suede look black boots (KG, bought on ebay for about £6)
black velvet coat
leopard print squashy velvet bag
Consultant31 - I agree with Lostinrates, Monsoon is a good bet. I also think if you look on the discount codes board there's some codes for M&S with £10 off a £50 spend but I think a couple of codes might be combinable for an extra discount and the PerUna range might have something suitable.0 -

There's a Monsoon and a Mango discount outlet in Junction 32 (hello from a fellow Yorkshire girl!) where you might find something floaty with pretty embellishment. Or what about MacArthur Glen? I Haven't been there for a really long time but seem to remember a French Connection, Karen Millen and Joseph outlet stores? All good for relaxed evening wear, although possibly a little pricer than Monsoon (especially Joseph!).0
