Hi Acey!
When it comes to clothes shopping, I find it so helpful to concentrate on a dedicated shopping trip for one specific item only.
So if for example you want the perfect pair of trousers. Research on the internet first, different shapes and styles, see what your favourite shops have got, check out your wardrobe and see which colours will work best and which shoes/boots you're going to wear with them. Armed with this info, head out to the shops for a big try-on session. ONLY look at trousers, don't get side-tracked! Try them on everywhere and be fussy!
Dressing up? You've just got to push yourself a bit, I find!
I tried on my outfit for last Saturday about 10 times. I'd put a lot of thought into it knew it looked good and the style was right for me , but up to the last minute I could've chickened out, full of self-doubt and worn the black trousers instead.....Was the just above the knee tunic dress too short for me? Should I wear these shoes, will I look too tall? Is this style too modern for me? Am I overdressed for the occasion? Blah Blah Blah! I bought a gorgeous long necklace from Next with massive oversized pearls, which I stupidly did chicken out of wearing. I've never worn false eyelashes in my life, but when I went to have my eyebrows waxed, I picked out a feathery pair, not too thick but nice and long and got the girl to fix those on too! As I was getting ready, I fleetingly thought maybe I should take the eyelashes off, at which point DD said they looked lovely and natural and to stop being stupid! Eventually off I went as planned and got loads of compliments, people asking where I got the dress from and I felt absolutely great!0 -
Welcome, Acey. I too am a huge fan of wearing what makes you feel good / what you are comfortable in, and if that is jeans etc, then so be it. If you feel the need to jazz them up, use chunky costume jewellery etc to make a statement.0

Morning!
Sorry I didn't get on yesterday, was a very manic day at work.
Acey - the girls on here are fab at helping. I went on a shopping trip in September, and after getting some help on here I knew exactly what I was looking for!
So todays outfit is:
teal jumper dress - H&M last year £15ish
black opaques
knee length black boots with a buckle and a bit of a heel - Next last year £80
black bead necklace and bracelet - Next sale
fitted cap sleeve jacket - Primark sale £5
lovely soft woolly scarf - DP £120 -
Disybella, I think you said you were at the doc's today...good luck!
I am too, so I'm hiding in clothes again! Not sure what yet..can't wear the shoes I want to because of the rain.....I think its all going to centre around conficence giving shoes today!
ETA: ok, I'me sorted,
Shoes: heels, of course, black, LK Bennet, at least seven years old: haven't needed ''sensible'' black day shoes for ages. These are fo going to the bank or funerals, or the occasional sober lunch when I try and look less free sorited but not without a sex drive.
Black knitted silk dress over black slip. Grey opaque tights (although wish I had some barely black sheers, they would be better today...black felt hat with brown beads, burberry, and, under my hat I can't help it, some sunglasses, I think I'll go for gold today...so that will also be gold earrings (my lovely flat discs) and a spanish gold bracelet, and a few bangles on the other arm. I know all the bangles will end up in a bag while they do tests, but at least I'll feel armedfor a while.
ETA: all the tights I could find were laddered, or laddered as I put them on. So I ditched the tights, the shoes, the hat, the burberry and wore peep toes instead, and trotted around the puddles.0 -
Morning (just) all!
Work is a bit 'meh' today, my big project basically needs redoing with three days to the deadline and I'm just feeling a bit frustrated because as it's being done through a design company I don't feel like I'm in control of it. I am this close to ringing them and saying, "Send me the PDF and I'll work out how to do it myself, stuff the seven grand". *sigh* I was supposed to be going to see my director to sort out stuff with my contract today but now I doubt that's going to happen.
Anyways, today's outfit is:
- Red scoop neck and back half sleeve top (Dotty P's)
- Grey wide leg charcoal trousers (French Connection via sister)
- Cream quilted ballet pumps with black patent toe (New Look)
- Electric blue trench coat (New Look) to come into work
- Usual jewellery
Perfume is Body Shop Aqua Lily and nail polish is Nails Inc South Molton Street (soft pink).
In work until around fiveish, then home.

Morning everyone:)
Hi to the newbies:) I would suggest if you are struggling to find your own way or confidence in fashion, find a celeb whose style you like, maybe someone who is a similar size or age to you, although this doesn't have to be so and copy what they wear, take note of colour combinations, proportions and accessories in a very short time dressing like that will become second nature and then comes the good bit you gain confidence and start to add your own style to the basics, your confidence will grow and you will of had very few disasters and upsets;)I understand some people will think this is a cop out but not everyone has flair naturally some of us need help:Dand lets not forget this is what ASOS was founded on all those years ago, if your planning a big shop try this method, you'll have a lot of ideas after an hour or two searching online and then move on gradually but still look great in the meantime - hth:)

Hi all! I've just had my new Blackberry delivered and I don't know how to use it - argh! I've been sans-phone since Saturday (it was stolen from my bag in a charity shop!) and am in desperate need for social contact but can't work this thing out! Nightmare!
Anyway, here's mine for today:
Rose print tea dress
Grey t-shirt
Grey woolly tights
Yellow cardi
Grey waist belt
Black suede pixie boots
Nameplate necklace
Owl face ring
Happy Tuesday!0 -
Hi Gang! What a vile day. Had an aquasize session this morning followed by a fruitless mission round the charity shops. This afternoon will definately be spent eBaying.
Acey, don't despair with your clothing and style as the others have said, there's lots of great friendly advice on this thread.
I always lay my outfit out on the bed before I put it on and visualise it on a stranger wondering if I'd consider them stylish if I bumped into them on the street. Cut out pictures of clothing that appeal in magazines and catalogues and keep them together in an envelope. When you've a large collection spread them out in front of you and a pattern should emerge and you should be able to see the type of thing you're into.
Today's miserable weather warranted a special dressing-up day:
Vintage tweed cape-sleeved coat dress (Vintage fashion fair £5)
Grey opaques
Black patent high heeled brogues (Primark via chazza shop £2.95)
Black angora trilby (Car Boot £1) accessorised with a Victorian Whitby jet mourning brooch (inherited)
Silver rings
Vintage leather handle magazine cover umbrella (25p car boot)
Black faux jet Accessorize chandelier earrings (Chazza shop 50p)
(Pictures on my blog if you're interested)
Happy tuesday! XXXXX
PS Bronnie I'm not surprised by all the compliments you got on saturday, I bet you looked fab.0
