Kitchen price - they taking the mickey?

Hiya,
have just be quoted nearly £6000 (just worksurfaces, units and their accessories) for a small kitchen (12' by 6') in the range shown from Howdens. We are in Harrow, NW London.
Update: should emphasize this excludes fitting !
Is that a "taking the michael" price?
We are only buying one appliance from them - the cooker - and that was itemised at onlt £300 (60% reduction). We want two curved units which are seemingly dearer, but nevertheless...

£6k for a kitchen that small really does seem expensive. Give it two weeks and check other places and see if they call you up with reductions. If it's not worth 6k then they'll soon be offering you reduced rates. If they don't you might be able to haggle £500-1k off the price but perhaps you can find cheaper elsewhere??
Am not familiar with London so I don't know how easy it would be to source cheaper... Perhaps the kitchen company are high quality and you should consider downgrading?
Nice picture by the way!I love surprises!0 -
Thansk Maggie, good advice. I believe Homebase does the same range, so I think I will try to get a quote from them.0

Curved units will be very much more expensive and beware of the fact that you won't get as much in them. My first quote and design was done by Homebase originally with curved units as I was very taken with them. Then had a similar design done by Ikea, without curved units as I couldn't justify the cost, and downloaded their design thingy on to my pc and played about with the design myself. My fitter then took my semi finished design and sized it correctly and put it into Howdens and it was probably about half the price of Homebase.
Different account holders seem to get different discount percentages at Howdens but wait for Doozergirl as she is the Howdens expert
Oh and I went with Howdens in the end and sourced all appliances separately along with the worktops, sink and taps.0 -

Oi!!! Don't use my name in vain
And yes, it seems rather expensive, especially considering it is a Howdens kitchen...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

They are quoting you full price. We got quoted £190 for a replacement door when ours broke. We got builder to buy it (same door was £40 for him).
You need to get the quote via someone who has a trade account there.
6k bill will probably fall below 2k.

It is a trade quote to our local builder!:eek:0 -

There is more than one Howdens in Harrow. There is also one in Watford.
Why not try elsewhere, see what happens?
There is also a Kingswood Kitchens in Colindale that will supply the usual stuff.
(I have not bought from either of these, but have got prices from them.)0
