Kitchen price - they taking the mickey?

Hi,
That does seem a lot if it excludes the fitting. We have just ordered a new kitchen from Homebase, a cream one 'Portland' in their Band 1 price band (they go to Band 3...we didn't even look at those!) Anyway, our kitchen fit will include the following: 15 units, including a tall larder with the pull out baskets, a Belfast sink and some additional joinery work because I wanted a unit with two pull out wicker baskets and this wasn't available in the range we chose, so their joiner is going to adapt a cabinet by fitting the runners. One of the units will also involve boxing in the boiler & pipes. We don't need any flooring or appliances, but have chosen solid beech worktops. They have also included replacing all our electric sockets with the legal ones with on/off switches. For this, we were quoted £6485 but when we went back to sign the papers, having accepted this, a new offer had just started that day whereby there was 15% off certain things so the amount we are paying is £6085. This is fully fitted, and as far as I understand, having asked loads of questions when the fitter came out to do the final measure-up, we will now only need to pay for any tiling we want done afterwards. I think when we placed the order, Homebase had 20% off sinks, handles, worktops and stuff, so it can be worth keeping a close eye on their offers. Sorry this is rather a long post, suppose what I'm saying is that if that qoute is for unfitted, it does sound a bit on the steep side.
Not for a moment saying we got a reasonable price, but ...
Went for more expensive range (Milano High Gloss), curved units which are double cost normal ones and maia worktop (granite mineral top surface), also more expensive. yes unifitted £5k. We're talking London area too.
Was nervous of Homebase fitters as guy said it will "start" at £3k, and that's only if "standard fit"...they never are!0 -
Hi Peeps,
Went for the ikea white gloss with the smooth closing drawers, i am really quite impressed, as their drawers are really deep (think the old glass heinz bottles, that i can store!!) & ,metal backed, don't feel flimsy at all!. Spent money on the real granite black work surfaces & used the same granite as a splashback, will try to get some pics . Harrowmarrow at last its finished!! u relieved or what?!
Sure am ShaysMum - sounds similar to mine, except went for cream and maia worktop. Homebase cupboards lovely and DEEP, got in plates that were too big for old cupboards!:D
My wife is a colourful character and likes colourful walls !:o
[early picture, some plinths missing at the bottom I think]
