Hi i will cut a long story short,,i have an average size kitchen and i want a compete re fit appliances as well
    Went to William Ball ,,,,,,,,expensive
Went to BnQ..........expensive for a cheaper brand than William Ball, quote came in same as William Ball
Went Howdons.....YAWN........couldnt understand the pricing strategy with discounts here and discounts there and in fact there were no discounts to be had at all really because if the quote wasnt discounted it would come in at 18k......lol.....so in the end because of a crazy pricing strategy i ripped there quote up annd dumped them.
Got recommendation of a kitchen company been trading 20yrs,,no fancy web sites , dont advertise and they seem to have so far give me a good honest quote,,and its coming in so far in between 4-5k from the above.
I am having a final meeting with the kitchen planner on Monday so i keep you posted........
Edited to say they make there own cupboards so they wont be standard sizes as are in the above.......

Homebase now sell a pre-cut curved "Maia" worksurface, all nicely covered along the edges. The DW fell in love with this as she was worried sick of any potential builder's attempts at cutting a semi-circle and then putting tape neatly on the edges.
It pushed the price up again:o (now £5k exactly) but we've gone for their Milano kitchen with this top.

Also Homebase included all the "pelmet" stuff which Howdens didn't include in their £6k quote.

Maia - A premium worktop which performs like the finest solid surfaces but made from natural minerals and acrylic bonded to a chipboard base.

    Hi,
That does seem a lot if it excludes the fitting. We have just ordered a new kitchen from Homebase, a cream one 'Portland' in their Band 1 price band (they go to Band 3...we didn't even look at those!) Anyway, our kitchen fit will include the following: 15 units, including a tall larder with the pull out baskets, a Belfast sink and some additional joinery work because I wanted a unit with two pull out wicker baskets and this wasn't available in the range we chose, so their joiner is going to adapt a cabinet by fitting the runners. One of the units will also involve boxing in the boiler & pipes. We don't need any flooring or appliances, but have chosen solid beech worktops. They have also included replacing all our electric sockets with the legal ones with on/off switches. For this, we were quoted £6485 but when we went back to sign the papers, having accepted this, a new offer had just started that day whereby there was 15% off certain things so the amount we are paying is £6085. This is fully fitted, and as far as I understand, having asked loads of questions when the fitter came out to do the final measure-up, we will now only need to pay for any tiling we want done afterwards. I think when we placed the order, Homebase had 20% off sinks, handles, worktops and stuff, so it can be worth keeping a close eye on their offers. Sorry this is rather a long post, suppose what I'm saying is that if that qoute is for unfitted, it does sound a bit on the steep side.

  • I've been very lucky - got my kitchen (minus appliances) for house in Scotland at just over £800 supply only from B&Q by going round all the sheds in turn to get my 10% price match off each. Homebase wouldn't match the final quote from B&Q by a long shot - their best was about £1400. I had advantage of VAT paid by store and Jan sale prices at the same time and have 14 units and sink, taps, worktop etc for this.

Then tried to do the same for other rental property in Nottingham and can't get anywhere near this price for a kitchen half the size! The offers in England within the same sale period were appauling in comparison and all the kitchen planners seemed flabbergasted when I presented my Scottish quote. I'm now wondering if it's worth ordering everything from oop Norf if the deals are that different!

    Hi Peeps,
Went for the ikea white gloss with the smooth closing drawers, i am really quite impressed, as their drawers are really deep (think the old glass heinz bottles, that i can store!!) & ,metal backed, don't feel flimsy at all!. Spent money on the real granite black work surfaces & used the same granite as a splashback, will try to get some pics . Harrowmarrow at last its finished!! u relieved or what?!
