gulp, im hoping to pay no more than 2k for ours, although that dont include fitting or appliances

Me too!!!!, got the appliances all named £970 delivered, fitting to be done by own builders!!

I can't believe that £2k in this market is not feasible & I have trade accounts all over the place :(
No one said it was gonna be easy!

    STOP PRESS 2

Back to square 1, now our builder has let us down cos he says he won't fit "lower quality" homebase (or, more likely, has just realised we can't afford what he was planning to quote for work).:cry:

whats the difference in units then from say b and q, to the sort that you are using in that example?

The easiest way to compare it is to say it's the difference between a Kia (B&Q) and a Porsche (Stoneham - the one I was pricing up)

    Main differences are:

    Stoneham:
Hand painted doors, panels, plinths etc and you get to choose the colour
    The doors are hand made
18mm high density MFC carcase - custom built, so available in ANY size
    Rigid built

    B&Q:
Mass produced doors, in a set amount of sizes
    All accessories are MFC
    18mm low density MFC carcase
    Flat packed

There really is no comparision on quality, but obviously, you pay a premium for the quality...

I know not everyone (infact a very small percentage of people) can afford a kitchen like that, and that's why you buy the best quality for what you can afford...

BTW please don't buy a B&Q kitchen, they really are THAT poor...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Homebase any better than B&Q, mw ?

i suppose its horses for courses tho, because as i say, my b&q kitchen lasted me 12years and thats only cos i moved out, i would have kept it had i stayed there, possibly changing or painting the doors at some point becuase i would have wanted a change at some time
in addition, i would prefer the items coming flat packed because its easier to get them through into the kitchen!!!

i can understand your comparison, BUT even if i had the money i wouldnt buy a porcshe as opposed to a kia because i would see the kia as more practical, user friendly, cost effective and when i get bored of it in a few years, no tears are shed over what i paid for it

Homebase any better than B&Q, mw ?

Yup. B&Q are about the worst of the sheds, quality wise. Next up would be Ikea, followed by Homebase and Focus, then top of the sheds would be Wickes and Howdens (if you can class Howdens as a shed)

Magnet kitchens are more expensive than Wickes or Howdens, but actually a lower quality product. Moben tend to be more expensive again and are a similar product to Magnet...

Then you get the various different independants, which vary in quality and costs. I supply 3 different types of kitchen:

TMS - Scottish, decent quality, similar price point to Wickes or Magnet
RWK - German, excellent quality (as you'd expect) and more mid range priced
Stoneham - English and about as good quality as you can get (without getting a solid wood carcase)
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
