The obvious answer is a DSS Crisis Loan. Available to everyone, not just the unemployed. Freephone number.
Basically, they will help. You say your electric and gas are on a pre paid key card thing (or they won't include help for that) and they will easily (unless you are a right muppet and balls it up) advance the equivalent of your DSS daily rates until you next get paid. No evidence usually needed.
So, if you are single and over 21 you would get £64.30 a week income support or JSA so that is about £9.18 a day. If you had 15 more days until payday, then you could get 15*9.18=137.7. You would pay it back at some agreed figure per week, starting way way way into the future if their processing skills are the same as they used to be.
Sure it is more debt but you can't live on £3.0 -
wow, what an inspiring thread. BiW, you started something here, didn't you?! good luck with it all, there all lots of people here (including me) who are wishing you the best of luck...and I've picked up some new ideas from this thread too. thanks so much for sharing your story with us, keep us posted as to how you get on.
btw all the tips about eating porridge have reminded me of an incident from my home town in the 1980's, when we were yet again in a dark recession and loads of people were very skint. A local councillor 'lived' on benefits for a week, and pronounced that it was 'easy' (never mind that she owned a nice house, had no debts etc - it was purely a stunt for political purposes). She went on local radio and lectured that porridge was THE food for poor people. A completely skint constituent took offence at this posturing, mixed a huge bowl of porridge, and poured the lot through her letter box. So, next time you're eating oats, think about the surprise this smug lady had on her hallway carpet, grin to yourself, and carry on :-)
good luck!0 -
