  • I remember being a student years ago thinking "Blimey I have to live on just bread and beans today", but this really is a remarkable story with lots of great advice.

I'm not preaching and I appreciate times might be tough, but I'm not sure that lying and cheating is the way forward. For your own good I would reconsider these options, life without a job and a criminal record could be alot tougher.

don't get me wrong I pay everytime they come collecting but I'm not going to go out of my station to find a barrier collector que and pay for a ticket and risk missing my second train.

I just realised I didn't explain myself clearly, if I havne't been collected and i can see the conductor coming i'll get off the train and wait for thre next train, an dpay from that stop... so it is a lie (of sorts) but i'm paying correct fare on the new train, like I said I pay 99.999% of th etime these are just on the odd occasion when I know i'm running short for end of the week... desperate measures though.. luckily this is all in the past..

edit: I just noticed I've written my posts in present tense, when I was trying to explain how desperate I've gotten in the past.
  • Hiya

Not sure what debts you have but have you looked at going to CCCS and doing a Debt Management Plan?

It is on this website so it good....

I was like you, no money after 2 weeks of getting paid, but going to CCCS - i should be better off each month and they pay all the creditors for you... rent food, general houshold bills, you still pay, but they control all debts, BUT you are not tied in....

Just click their link and enter the details and it gives you a summary of what you pay them each month and how the money is split.....

I applied last week, had agreement this week, all creditors info sent, full info by nexdt week, pay them end of Nov...

Alot of mess with leting all creditors know but worth the long work...

go on and check it out.....

also, not really saving money but as I catch 2 trains to work every day (and 2 back!!), this is what I do... train fare is £6 return or £4 single, if for any reason no collectors come around on morning journey, I've saved at least £2, I put that away and do not touch unless no other option, there's been days where i'v enot paid for same reason so saved £6. When I've had to pay on my return journey, I'm not proud but I lie on where I've got on, (this only works for non-barrier stops obv) but I'll say I got on a 2 stops earlier or something...

last month we were broke as usual as it was a week till payday and I'd raided my secret train travel money supply to find I'd saved £70..... if you got the will power do this! this wa safter I'd exhausted all money vouchers and other forms of cost cutting (makin gstews for food etc..) the noodles trick and buying food late from supermarkets and visiting family. that £70 got us to payday (with the help of a day off work at the end!!)
For fear of turning this into a slanging match, I feel compelled to state the blindingly obvious here.
i)The people who work for shops, trains, buses, etc all do so in the hopes they will get their wages at the end of the week.
ii) The other folk who travel, shop etc also struggle to pay prices & fear the next increase.
It is NOT the "Big Bosses" who foot the bill when the few do things like dodge fares or lift a packet of biscuits, but the little guy at the bottom of the stack who is most likely to lose their income when the shop etc is forced to close.
I have been a shop worker among other things & know how it's "only 50p" to you but can be thousands of pounds a day to a store if everyone took that attitude. It is also the other customers who face even more price rises to compensate for those who--for want of a better way to put it--take without paying.
I have brought up my children alone since their father decided to walk & now ill health forces three of us to manage on benefits so while I can understand money being short, I can NEVER condone theft.

  • Hi everyone,
I just wanted to update you on my progess.
First of all, I've receiveed some very handy vouchers from Pinecone research, and I'm building up a bit of cash in my pureprofile account.
I've been having a bit of a plan ahead - what I'm going to do with my cash once I've paid off all the debt to try and build up an emergency saving fund. (I figure I'm paying just over £200 a month toward my debts currently, so once I've paid them off, I can likely afford to save £150 a month and still feel like I have more disposable income.)
Butttt - best of all, I have made progress with my landlady! I took a long lunch last week and went to see a solicitor - who assured me that the law is totally on my side. He gave me court papers and called the thieving landlady to tell her what I was doing. She backed down almost immediately and has promised to pay up by the end of this week. So watch this space.....
  • Great news on the landlady, I have my fingers crossed for you. It is rubbish that you have had to go so far before she has agreed to pay. x

Are you going to ask for the costs involved too? Have to say you chose the right legal firm there! In my experiences, solicitors have not been that quick to act so Well Done them :T
