Hi Chirs,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner as I do not check these forums every day, I can see your order has now shipped.
Sorry to hear you won't be using our services again, we hope your ordered item does meet your satisfaction and you will change your mind once you receive your order.
As stated above we do have a system in place which advises customers about back ordered items and delays but this is under going some development. This should be re-enabled in due course.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Kind regards,
James

I ordered frames and lens from selectspecs on 31 January to date I have not heard a thing my order shows as in progress I have to say the service appears to be slow with no updates of contacts. I got the valentines offer too.
Hopefully I will get an update report shortly.
Dean,
Do you have an order number so I can check for you?
Thanks
James

I'm glad to have found this thread, and am delighted to be able to tell SelectSpecs I won't be using them.
My mother apparently has a very unusual varifocal prescription - she ordered frames to compare on GlassesDirect's free home trial, but after placing her order she got a phonecall telling her that they can't make up her lenses.
If anyone's having trouble with this lot, GlassesDirect seem to have very good customer service - they send you the frames to try at home (for free, I think).
So I'm preparing an email to send to all the online spectacles suppliers to ask "apparently I have an unusual prescription - here it is, can you make up these lenses, please?"
So far I have email addresses for directsight.co.uk, specsavers.co.uk, visionexpress.com, glassescomplete.co.uk, LensWay.co.uk, ozealglasses.co.uk and speckyfoureyes.com - one or two of these email addresses were a little tricky to find, but writing this comment has taken longer than it took me to compile all of them.
SelectSpecs won't be getting my business, because I can't email you. :T I just wanted you to know that. :wave:0 -

Sorry to hear this. You can contact us through our ticketing system through the "contact" link at the top of every page, or through here:-

Chances are, we will be able to do this job if you give us the details, our opticians will look in to this for you if you would like.
Kind regards,
James

Strolls, just be aware that some people, including myself, have bought varifocals online and have been unable to use them. After a quote of £500 from my high street optician, I took a gamble and spent nearly £300 online and I desperately wish I'd put that towards varifocals that I could actually use from my high street opticians.
I have had several pairs of varifocals before and found the high street optician useful in getting them just right. When you order them online, the high stree optician will physically adjust them but mine (in this case from SelecSpecs) just make my eyes hurt. Others have said the same, buying varifocals online is risky. And as they're about the most expensive prescription, it's a costly risk.
I have had perfectly good single focal length spectacles from SelectSpecs but I will NEVER buy varifocals online again. Just my tuppence worth.
Edit: I have found the SelectSpecs ticketing system generally works well and would not let the lack of e-mail contact put me off using them.0 -
I have astigmatism (probaby need varifocals shortly) and it's important the glass sits in the right place relative to the eye.
I know the on-line companies take pupillary distance but I think this is one case where it's much better to get the job done in person.0 -
Just to put another side to this argument about select specs.
I have had 4 pair of glasses off them over the past 2 years, 3 of them the last 3 months, since cataract surgery.
They have been brilliant. The choice of frames is great, the top end vari focal lens option is fantastic. I needed VF for driving and they have been fantastic, took to them straight away. The prices are good, the service has been brilliant. They are so good, I have a pair of polarised Varifocal sunglasses, sitting in my basket, waiting for a discount code to come through, to make them cheaper.
James, if you can give me a 50% off discount code today, The order will be placed straight away ! They are that good.
If you are purely getting your prescription from your optician and not asking questions like what is my PD, looking at the width of frame, lens size, arm size etc, no wonder you are getting glasses which don't suit you. Choose a pair of frames that fit great, note down the size of the frame off the arm and download the PD guide off the sight, you cannot go wrong.0
