    Hi abozo,

Apologies for our delayed reply. We're currently in the process of migrating to a new Help desk system which we aim to be completed and live this week or next, this will enable us to offer phone support in the coming months - this is causing a few delays with replies to queries.

I can assure you your order is in safe hands but if you would like me to keep an eye on your order please let me know your order number so I can check.

With regards to reviews, Trust Pilot is independent so the reviews are all from real customers based on their experiences (We didn't reach 3000 reviews at 5 stars by offering a poor service / product! :) ). While it's impossible to be perfect we do try to resolve any issues our customers may have.

    Kind regards,

    James

  • Dear SelectSpecs,

    Order number: 300551
    Ticket: #83849

We have received the order on 2013-OCT-01 but have decided to return the entire order (2 pair of glasses) and get a refund from you. I have already raised a ticket with you on your website about this but no response so far.

I would be really grateful if you can help me. Could you please let me know how I should return the items and where I should return the glasses to? I would like to get this sorted out ASAP.

    Many thanks,
    Gameplayers

    Thanks for your support James.

I received my spectacles from selectspecs on Friday and after getting them fitted by my local (but now understandably slightly grumpy) optician, I am starting the process of getting used to them.

The optician said the slectspecs pair match my prescription perfectly but the "field of vision" is much reduced in comparison to my previous pair, which he sold me. His comment was that your selectspecs glasses were fine but that you had used a cheaper (Solar?) lens, which explained the difference in cost and field of view between my new selectspecs pair and my previous optician's pair. I am struggling a bit with them, mainly due to this loss in field but if I don't get used to them after a week or so I'll just have to buy another pair form my optician.

I needed to try glasses from the internet at least once just to see what the issues are. Now I know. I think with varifocals and all the potential problems associated with them it's probably best to stick to my local optician in future. I expect for single focal length lenses an internet purchase is fine. And I am seriosuly considering this for a pair for computer work.

I would order again from selectspecs, but probably not for varifocals.

    Hi Abozo,

Without checking each pair individually to see what prescription and lenses were used it's hard to tell why the FOV would be different. Our lenses are the same as what would be used in the high street, we also offer branded lenses too with a view to supplying more brands in the future.

We also offer Freeform Varifocals which may be more suitable for you, these have a wider FOV although cost a little more.

    Kind regards,

    Thanks for that, James.

I actually did order Freeform Varifocals UltraX Super Thin - 1.74 Index from you (order 298764). These were recommended to me by your representative Christina K. I believed they were the best lenses that SelectSpecs offered. I was not aware that you offered different brands of lenses.

The spectacles work well, it's just that I am having to move my head from side to side a lot more than I am used to, in order to find the relatively small "focus spot". I am still hoping that I will get used to doing this, if not I will have to go back and get them reglazed at my optician with more expensive (Seiko) lenses.

I am no expert but from what I have been told, as different opticians use different brands/quality lenses their prices are obviously different. The more expensive lenses tend to have a wider field of view, which makes them "easier" to use.

I was aware when ordering that as your price was 2/3 of my optician's price there must be some difference in quality. But I thought if I ordered your most expensive lens option I might be getting as close as possible to my previous lenses. As I say, I needed to try the process to understand. In future I need to know what brand of lenses I am purchasing, not just the refractive index. For the man-on-the street it's a bit of a minefield. Perhaps varifocals are not an ideal internet purchase?

When my optician asked me for £400 for my new glasses and SelecSpecs were asking £292 for what appeared to be an identical product, I thought it was worth trying to save the difference. But now I realise that maybe there's a good reason for the difference.

Your feedback here is much appreciated and helps to boost my confidence in your company. :T

Abozo, the Varifocal design is one critical part of successful varifocal wear - the others being the precise positioning of both heights and 1/2 PDs and with freeform lenses, taking into account the distance of the lenses from your eyes, the tilt of the frame when worn and how curved the front of the frame is. These all require 'face to face' dispensing rather than online ordering.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks very much nedmundo, that does help a lot. You write as though you have plenty of knowledge in this field. From what you say, it seems as though varifocals shouldn't really be sold online?

I may have learned a costly lesson.
