;24142389]Sounds like your proud of being 'separate' from your husband. :-)
I sometimes wonder why people get married.:D
Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.

you miss the point. the divorce rate is high, and everyone goes into marriage thinking they will never split up. but people do. a good friend is divorcing and she's having a nightmare sorting out the joint finances. why complicate things unneccessarily by having joint finances for the sake of it?

Hmmm. Hardly a basis for getting married in the first place if you're already planning what to do when you split up...

Personally, if I ever split from partner, money would not be my biggest issue.
• So he has £21k (less tax) for him after paying the bills?

I earn less than OH at the moment, but I pay my fair share.

But what if for the sake of argument you earned half. I'll bet things would be different then?

I would never have a joint account with anyone, ever, after having one with my ex husband.

I earned £13k, he earned nothing and he cleaned me out all the time taking money to go to football, clubbing etc. whilst I was struggling to pay the mortgage and bills.

Learnt my lesson there, now what I earn is mine and mine alone.

Surely thats a bit unfair on any future partner. Tarring everyone with the same brush and all that !!!

In most relationships there comes a point where one person has to be financially dependant on the other, thats when keeping things the same way, results in unhappiness

I have a feeling it's something to do with him admitting to me one time that, he plays with my hair and stokes my face whilst i'm sleeping. I then become to tired to face job hunting. My sleep disorder feels like a full time job, just maintaining it. Interuptions in the night sends my hard work back weeks. He knows what buttoms sends my routine haywire and I believe he's working those buttons to his wants.

So you believe he stays awake half the night intentionally keeping you awake, in order to make you so tired that you can't face looking for a job?

Interesting...

Never mind cancelling the wedding - if you genuinely believe what you just wrote, then you need to run away.. and quickly.
• I totally agree, I hear someone at work going on about her money and her partners money and how she has some of her money in an account he doesnt know about.

And I am just like !!!!!! kind of marriage is that!!!

Now that is well bad. Makes you wonder what else shes keeping secret!
• it's how i got where i am and a big part of who i am

Willy waver alert !!!! :D:D:D
• redundancy isn't likely for either of us, we have private health cover/insurance/savings and the jury is out on kids  there isn't anything on the horizon that makes me think it could become a problem

Please tell me your young. There must be an excuse for your naivety....

It happens, love. I used to earn about £200,000 a year working as an independent IT contractor. Then I got ill and it went down to zero. Unfortunately, no insurance in the world is going to cover that.

When I was earning that, did I let my wife spend it (she was a student on about £3K a year)? Course I did. When I wasnt earning that we BOTH didnt have money.

I dread to think what would happen if you ever had kids. You'd end up charging him an hourly rate for carrying his child !!!! LOL :D
