I got my Family Life Book yesterday.
I think I may have been better with just the normal Life Book. Just cause my children probably don't do enough stuff and they are older, to warrant a space each everyday, but I'll just use the different squares for different things.
I'm not sure whether I'll bother too much with the stickers either.

Apart from that I love it....lots of to do lists and stuff, just my kind of thing!!

I used to do something similar to the Moleskine hack but with those thick French exercise books you can buy in supermarkets with a spiral binding.

The family name for them is Mum's Plot Books (because I do all my plotting and planning in them. I like keeping them, it's quite interesting to look back and see, for example, what my menu plan was in August 2006. Or even further back, how HUGE the packing list for holidays was when the DDs were babies. And how little progress I have made with that list of books to read I made back in 2003!!
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Just ordered myself a Home Planner Calendar and can hardly wait for it to arrive. I couldn't find a suitable calendar for this year as I left it too late and have had to manage without thus far in 2009. It has been a nightmare as everyone expects me to remember everything for them!
:jI now feel that Christmas is coming early.......but in a good way:D

Thank you to whoever gave the link to organisedmum.co.uk
  • I love pads too maryb, there is something cathartic about writing and being able to look back on it!

I have been reading about the 'Getting Things Done' / GTD method since last night (Google will show you) and I have learnt so many basic things, that astound me. I mean, I thought I was an organised list maker par excellence!

Loving YouTube and Flickr for reference on this, as well as how people use their journals / moleskines etc.

As ideas here are my tabs for when it arrives:

    - Inbox - for ideas that pop into myhead (to reorganise later)
    - Someday/Maybe - for reading, new skills etc
    - Body - For health, blood donations etc
    - Calls - Calls to make

The GTD system recommends only having in your diary actual solid appointments etc. This is not how I have always operated (have always scribbled in things on the day to remind me), so I will have to see whether I can change my spots or not!

I've looked at GTD before. Its been highly recommended on a few other sites I go on.
I'm just not that organised...or I just don't have that many ideas!!

I do think its a good idea to write down stuff as you think of it, though. I've been forgetting loads of stuff during the holidays cause I've got out of the habit.
  • Just ordered my life book, can not wait...... iam going to be so organised, you will be reconigse me lol

I don't want to add to anyone's addiction but I got the new Lakeland Christmas catalogue yesterday and they've got some nice organisers.

I think OrganisedMum will wonder where all these orders are coming from!

Re Lakeland here are some of the direct links:

    Couple calendar:

    Family calendar:

FrankieM - you definately need an excuse to get one, birthday is perfect!
Re GTD, I have implemented the 'download your brain' / Inbox idea and it has had an immediate effect, I feel much more relaxed! One bit of paper with every single thing to do, thing to plan, task, reminder etc - long, medium and short term, so I can see it all in one place and decide what wil go where and how I can action them.
Studies have shown that the RAM / short term brain can only hold around 5 items, so Homer Simpson was right!

My Moleskine has not arrived, darned Royal Mail strikes, will have to wait til Monday now to start designing the pages and how it will work for me... though I imagine it will be something like this:

  • re the organised mum stuff - I am tempted by the life book with cover - can you replace the diary bit..or would I have to replace the whole caboodle?
