  • It could be a case of one door closing and another opening then Linda.
I hope it works out the way that is best for you both.

He was pretty upbeat when he returned home but about an hour ago went really down, he's with son in the garage/gym punching hell out of the punchbag.

The bosses were meeting at 6pm tonight so he should find out what's going on tomorrow.

He has been looking at the Police today, says he's wondered about it for some time now but was too 'comfortable' to do anything about it. I'm not sure how I feel about that at the moment but if he wants to go for it then of course I'll be 100% behind him.

He has said on many occasions that he wishes he did a job that made a difference rather than just earning money for other people.

It all seems a bit hopeless. I'm unqualified and unemployable.

I need Sally's kick up the backside services. I should be finalising the shop accounts but mentally I've left so keep putting it off. Some horrible phone calls to make too.

    Never mind.

    *hugs bookie*

Can you get the horrible phone calls out of the way and done tomorrow?
Is worrying and dreading them going to be worse than actually making them?

Snags - onion chutney is basically lots of onions (red ones are nice) , slowly cooked in a bit of oil and butter until they are brown (it means the sugars are then released - probably around 10-15 minutes), add brown sugar and balsamic vinegar and some grated black pepper. Then cook it right down for about an hour and then into jars.

  • You aren't unqualified and you aren't unemployable Bookie.

From what I know of you - these are some of your skills
    • Excellent Customer Service skills
    • Purchasing experience
    • Stock-keeping
    • Retail experience
    • Management skills
    • Fundraising
    • Financial awareness
    • Accountancy skills
    • Various IT skills
    • Well organised
    • Reliable
And that's just a quick list off the top of my head and probably doesn't even scratch the surface of your Guiding expertise!

Do you have O level maths and english? If not, how about doing a quick Level 2 certificate with your adult learning centre - it is free and it is something employers look for as a big 'tick' these days.

Thanks BB - I've tried to put it all in my CV but nobody wants CVs just really complicated application forms!
I have the O levels - maths, english, latin, french. chem. bio and physics and A level chem and bio. Plus an out of date SRN!

I just feel that I should be filling 8 hours a day at least sorting stuff but it's very soul destroying.

Sorry - I'll clear off! Moody, grumpy Bookie. :D

This is exactly what we've both said.

There is some money in the business so there would be a good redundancy payout.
The print trade is quiet at the moment though.
It's a case of will the current bosses who haven't cared about the place for a long time want to just pull the plug and close down or if it is sold to the senior employees (hubby included) that still have a passion for the business and want to run it properly, I.E not let customers run up huge accounts while still continuing to do jobs for them

As well as all that you have life experience and have worked with the public and that counts for a huge amount. I know in my field of work most employers would rather have a sensible, responsible mature lady than a kid with a string of recent qualifications.

Some of the best run business i have seen have been where the owners have not been afraid to collect their debts....some businesses feel that if they ask for their money the customers will stop using them....they are afraid of upsetting them.

If companies are having cashflow problems they will always pay the ones that shout the loudest (and threaten legal action).

Sammy, glad the inspection went well. Enjoy your early night.

BB, glad you survived the afternoon. You'll be shattered at the end of your first week of full time. Not got any recipes for green tomatoes have you hun? We've probably got a couple of pounds that just never turned red

Bookie, good luck with the job app.

Linda, I agree this could be the push DH needs. A policeman ehh.....yummy men in uniform :D
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches
