what brands won't you give up?

  • The Gazelle is a brand freak, has to be branded or I won't rest. Examples that I won't give up are:

    Domestos
    Twinings Tea
    Kelloggs
    Canderel
    Kenco Coffee
    Ambi Pur
Oh, The Gazelle did tell a porkie, I do like Lakelands Cling-film, expensive but it is just like the film in South Africa, pre-cut, so no waste........I guess the bit extra you pay for it, saves you having to throw most of it away in the long term.

    Heinz or Baxters tinned soup
    Nescafe
    Hellmans mayonnaise
    Bertolli spread
    Cadbury chocolate
Ariel, Persil, Surf, or other leading brand of washing powder although I always buy on special offer
    Twinings, Tetley, PG tips teabags
Napolina or other good brand of olive oil (will not compromise on this although always bought on special offer)
    Fairy washing liquid
    and
Asda's fresh olives as am addicted to them (will not buy them in a jar)

All toiletries I buy cheap or on special offer. I really don't mind the economy brand toilet roll. With the money I save on that I can buy a carton of olives
I use Asda roll on deodorant which works perfectly and costs around 45p

    Cathedral City Mature Cheddar.

I really did try down branding myself on cheese (as I am a total cheese fiend)... but nothing beats cathedral city. I ended up having to turn the value stuff into a cheese sauce with mustard in it to try and disguise the lack of cathedral city taste!

    Om nom nom.

  • Branston beans
    Coke Zero/Pepsi Max
    Branded shampoo/conditioner and deodorant
^ That's about it since my partner lost his job last year and money has been so tight.
We now buy Aldi cereals, tomato sauce, mayonnaise, salad cream, washing liquid and orange squash rather than the more expensive ones.
  • *Hellmans or heniz mayonaise(tried cheaper and just doesnt taste as nice)
*Surf concentrate washing liquid(found for me its the the only one that makes clothes smell nice and smell stays)
    *Comfort fabric conditioner(like above)
*Listerine mouthwash(really makes your mouth feel clean-again tried cheaper but dont get same effect)
    * Archers schapps(tried cheaper and just didnt like it,didnt taste the same, havent touched it and still in wine rack untouched)
    *Decent loo paper!!!
    *Body shop body butter
    (is the best)
Sounds alot ,but everything else i get i dont mind comprising or getting cheap.

Which Mitchum? I never got on with the stick and reverted to the roll-on: never tried sprays. Don't apply any deodorant right before you train, apply it earlier in the day so it has time to 'sink in'. I find Mitchum by far the most effective for keeping away smell more than keeping one dry. Frankly it's being stinky that gives me the fear! :o

If you want to noticeably reduce wetness long-term you should try one of the prescription/ pharmacy type anti-perspirants that you apply at night and wash off in the morning. With perseverance they do work well (I am a fitness instructor, and sweat freely anyway).

Ah- that may explain it- I had used both the roll on and the spray (Boots had a promo about 6 months ago and I bought both. I tried them one at a time and got no joy- so also tried them together, though slightly less per each. But it was just before stepping into a class/gym floor so that could be why.

I am now using the Sure Maximum protection stuff which you apply the night before then topping it up with Dove (which does s*d all but smells v.nice :) and so keeps my nose protected from the many masses who refuse to wear deoderant in my 50m sq (tiny!) Gym) I am in the gym too often and sweat so much I scare myself:eek: -I still can't get used to it! Until 2 years ago when I cracked it up at the gym; I realise now that I had never actually had sweat properly in my life-ever! I was doing the "glow" thing and thinking that it was sweat....oh the good old days!

Hmm well I have a feeling it will be a long list lol.

PG Tips - can't have any other now
Warbuttons bread (wholemeal) - can't stand Sainsburys brown bread, white is fine though
Kellogs Cornflakes - In find Asda's is ok, but I shop at Sainsburys, whos cornflakes are horrible.
    Branded shampoo/conditioner
Options hot chocolate - nothing tastes like it
Heinz Ketchup - the other stuff not as nice
Lemsip - as mentioned in another thread - the own brand stuff does nothing to help my colds.
Clarityn - same as above, but with hayfever

I'm pretty flexible with food, but when it comes to health and beauty the only thing I'm willing to buy thats own branded is ibuprofen and shower gel.

With the Lemsips and Clariytn its the same active ingredients in them as cheaper brands

lemsips contain paracetamol, caffiene and a decongestant as do asda, wilkos and sainsburys own -I actually dont like any of them inc lemsips but husband finds cheap ones need spoonful of sugar or honey to make them taste nicer but they are often 1/2 the price if not 1/3 price of lemsip

Clarityn and other branded allergy tablets are either loratidine or cetrazine (excuse spellings) which any of the cheaper versions are and are much cheaper superdrug recently had their own brand packs of 14 £1.49 BOGOF. my husband and I get through 7-14 a week between us being hayfever and general allergy suffers and max we will pay is 99p for 7.
  • Branded products

Sanex deodrant -only one not allergic to so stock up when on offer (must be due an offer somewhere as down to last one and brought 6 last time on offer!!)

simple shower gel and face wipes - again only thing not allergic to

sausages- any brand as long as 90% or more pork content

eggs- must be free range but will buy where cheapest

chicken- not intensively farmed will buy where on offer

anything else we will buy value ranges, shop own brands or shop at aldi, we do also use marks spencer but only for things that are cheaper than anywhere else such as 10 free range eggs for £1.59.

    Marmite
    Canadian Club
    Guinness
Listerene - only things I can think of at the moment

**Ah - I only use LIDL anti bacterial washing up liquid as it's the only one, out of the many I've tried, that doesn't affect my hands
