Hubby and I were chatting about quality over cost, and have come up with a list of things that we won't compromise on, and it got me wondering what yours were? Ours are - heinz tomato ketchup, decent tea bags, fresh coffee, colgate toothpaste and toilet roll. LV x

Heinz beans, Tetley teabags & decent washing powder. I've dropped brands on almost everything, but can't compromise on these.

My kids used to insist on Heinz ketchup. My suspicion was they tasted mainly with their eyes so we decided to decant Sainsburys basics ketchup into the Heinz squeezy bottle unbeknownst to them. Did they notice a difference? Did they heck! It's a fifth of the price and contains 67% LESS salt. I urge you to try a blind taste test with this and Heinz. My kids eat prodigious amounts of this. Annual saving? £80! On ketchup!!Call me Carmine....

colmans english mustard
I have been buying toothpaste in the £1 shop for the last couple of years cos its usually more than that in tesco or s/drug, unless they have an offer on.0 -
Heinz tomato ketchup - it's a false economy buying anything else as no-one will touch it. Might try the decanting of other stuff into Heinz bottle though!
Branston beans - 4 tins for £1 just now at Lidl's. Much, much better than Heinz ones. Heinz ones seem watery in comparison.0 -

Believe me, it's the only true way to test something out. It's not just kids who judge with their eyes, either. I did the same with Sainsburys basics tea bags (80 for 28p and they are fairtrade!). Put them in the tea caddy unannounced. Not one comment (adverse or complimentary) from my tea snob wife in a week! Result? We don't spend more than 0.35p on a tea bag!
