Baxters Beetroot, i've tried all supermarket own makes but nothing compares to Baxters.
Heinz Tomato Soup.
Bold Washing Detergent preferebly, will use other brand names but this is my favourite, have tried Lidl soap powder it's absoloutley rubbish, doesn't get stains out of kids clothes at 40 degree wash.
Apart from that i'm quite happy with supermarkets own brands of most things.:)0 -

My suspicion was they tasted mainly with their eyes so we decided to decant Sainsburys basics ketchup into the Heinz squeezy bottle unbeknownst to them. Did they notice a difference? Did they heck! It's a fifth of the price and contains 67% LESS salt. I urge you to try a blind taste test with this and Heinz. My kids eat prodigious amounts of this. Annual saving? £80! On ketchup!!
i was a very loyal heinz ketchup connisseur however the price was really putting me off. unfortunately i simply couldn't find another ketchup that was sweet and tangy and actually tastes of tomatoes. i kept trying the cheap brands (95% of what i buy is value brands so i'm not a brand snob by any stretch of the imagination!) but the cheap ones just did horribly.
but, one day it occurred to me to do with ketchup what i do with generic/store brand medicines... basically in the past with medicine i've always compared the ingredient list, not just whats in it but what order its in (highest amount first and so on) this has always made it easy to find a cheaper alternative of medicine so i thought let's try it with ketchup
so after studying the heinz bottle i realised it's got two things that many cheap ketchups dont' have 1. it's got 153g (last time i checked) of tomatoes per 100g of product 2. sugar is listed before vinegar.
so now when i'm deciding if i should buy a cheaper version of ketchup i look for a higher percentage of tomatoes per gram then the actual weight of product AND i make sure that sugar is always listed first. using this method i have consistently been able to find suitable alternatives. mind you i do still love heinz when i can get it but for the most part i've noticed only slight differences in brands that have at least 130g of tomato per 100 grams and sugar first... in fact one day i found a brand that had 163g/100g!
this has also helped me to completely avoid buying any ketchup from aldi's at all, i simply don't add it to my list if i'm goign there. last two times i checked they had one that had just 63g/100g and even worse one was only 17g/100g  i can only imagine how awful that one must taste!
i guess the point i'm making here is perhaps if you become a bit of a food detective and figure out what it is about the name brand you love so much you can use that as a guide for what to look for in cheaper alternatives0 -
After that there are certain brands I avoid (the new Tesco 'discount' one particularly), but find own brands fine.
may i ask why you dont like the tesco discount brandsReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
Were sticklers for Heinz baked beans, Hellmans mayo, Kingsmill wholemeal bread (which is permanently on offer at Iceland), decent brand wash tablets, Baxters beetroot (others seem too vinegary), decent loo roll
We have down-branded quite a lot ie on gravy granules, fabric conditioner, washing up liquid, cheese, shampoo, bath/shower gel etc
Id love to know how to get stains out of my nephews school t-shirts ive tried alsorts :mad:Opinions are like ar*eholes - everybody has one!!!!

Herbal Essences - although I have tried loads of different shampoo and conditioner and the only one that I find as good is Morrisons own. Luckily we had one open near here last week, so I may have to stock up on theirs. I do tend to use a cheaper shampoo and conditioner if i'm staying at home that day though.
Sanex roll on deodorant - always buy it when it's on offer. All others leave white marks and spray makes me sneeze.
Charlie red bodyspray - tried own brands and they don't last as long. I used one from Asda and think I sprayed it too close to my skin as had a reaction which looked like i'd been bitten by a giant bug!!
Nescafe coffee - I can count the number of cups of coffee I drink in a year on both hands (tea fan), but when I do fancy a cup, it has to be Nescafe.
That's about it! Some foods I actually prefer own brands like salad cream and ketchup as I find Heinz stuff really vinegary.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
