fairy washing up liquid
andrex toilet roll
bounty/plenty kitchen roll
Personally, i only ever buy big brands if they work out cheaper than the store brand and then i usually end up feeling dissapointed as i prefer the cheaper versions now:D
my oh won't have his clothes washed in anything but bold lavender and camomile liquid tablets, little does he know i got 2 boxes of tesco lavender ones for £3, instead of the £5 each it would of cost be for bold and he hadn't noticed a thing for months! that was until he found my stash at the back of the cupboard(oops!) but he is happy to let me carry on with the cheaper one now, just need to try and convert him on the whole heinz baked beans thing:rotfl::j:j:j0 -
Even when I was unemployed several years ago (unable to work due to health issues) I would not give up my Heinz 3.
Ketchup,
Beans,
& Tomato Soup.
Anything else I could take or leave, but if the OH bought anything else than these he was on the sofa!!£365 in 365 days challenge member

per una roma jeans - long leg length, bootcut and stretch fit - perfect
I completely agree about Per Una jeans. My local M&S clearance had some reduced to £4.99 a pair last week...I was soooo chuffed. Only Per Una jeans fit me properly and the roma ones are so comfy.
Some other brands the family use and don't buy any other
Mitchum Deodorant
Andrex Loo Roll
pampers nappies
Simple baby wipes
The worst baby wipes have to be Huggies, they fall apart in your hand.0 -
Confuzzled wrote: »i was a very loyal heinz ketchup connisseur however the price was really putting me off. unfortunately i simply couldn't find another ketchup that was sweet and tangy and actually tastes of tomatoes. i kept trying the cheap brands (95% of what i buy is value brands so i'm not a brand snob by any stretch of the imagination!) but the cheap ones just did horribly.
but, one day it occurred to me to do with ketchup what i do with generic/store brand medicines... basically in the past with medicine i've always compared the ingredient list, not just whats in it but what order its in (highest amount first and so on) this has always made it easy to find a cheaper alternative of medicine so i thought let's try it with ketchup
so after studying the heinz bottle i realised it's got two things that many cheap ketchups dont' have 1. it's got 153g (last time i checked) of tomatoes per 100g of product 2. sugar is listed before vinegar.
so now when i'm deciding if i should buy a cheaper version of ketchup i look for a higher percentage of tomatoes per gram then the actual weight of product AND i make sure that sugar is always listed first. using this method i have consistently been able to find suitable alternatives. mind you i do still love heinz when i can get it but for the most part i've noticed only slight differences in brands that have at least 130g of tomato per 100 grams and sugar first... in fact one day i found a brand that had 163g/100g!
this has also helped me to completely avoid buying any ketchup from aldi's at all, i simply don't add it to my list if i'm goign there. last two times i checked they had one that had just 63g/100g and even worse one was only 17g/100g  i can only imagine how awful that one must taste!
i guess the point i'm making here is perhaps if you become a bit of a food detective and figure out what it is about the name brand you love so much you can use that as a guide for what to look for in cheaper alternatives
I'm sure you have a point about the tomato content but, sadly, I also think a lot of people like Heinz due to its relatively high salt content i.e. it's over 3 times higher than Sainsburys basics ketchup).
Edit: Crafty b*ggers! Heinz now is made with 126g of tomatoes per 100g. The 75% cheaper Sainsbugs basics ketchup is made with 118g of tomatoes per 100g. A large premium for 8g of toms...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
I won't change from butter. I do buy the cheapest one but will not change to spread.
Also bisto gravy granules, nescafe, branston pickle & Garners pickled onions.
Have down shifted on a lot of shopping items and quite happy with them esp the sainsburys basics range.0 -
My partner won't give up Coca Cola, that's the only brand name we have in the house. I'm happy to try any value goods and actually prefer a lot of them to the big name brand names, saves us a fortuneThey have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson
