When skimmed milk first appeared we thought it tasted awful but we persevered and now we find semi skimmed not to our liking. The point being it's not foul tasting it's just different and not what you are used to. You're entitled to buy what you want but don't slag off other brands when it's your own narrow taste buds.
The only thing that is constant is change.

Schwepps (sp?) tonic water although Tesco now do a 'premium' one which is quite acceptable. And although I don't mind what brand it is, my gin must be 40% - none of that 37.5% rubbish!

Baked beans must be branded so either Heinz, HP or Batchelors. I've tried a few supermarket own ones and they are foul. Shame as I'm willing to swap.

If I'm using mayonaise as a base for tuna butties then I don't mind the own brand stuff but if it's to be eaten on it's own then I prefer Hellmans although can live without this.

That poster who said 'ewww' to the Asda shampoo made me chuckle. I'm more than happy to use own brand toiletries when I have my weekly bath (one a week whether I need it or not). I really don't like Imperial Leather shower gels - the sulphur in them sells really strong - almost oniony at times.

Can someone help me understand here? I have tried Mitchum Deoderant and I normally use either Sure, Dove or Nivea.

I found Mitchum left a wierd "film" on my skin, not oily, but not dry at all! When I went to the gym and broke into a sweat, the film became slimey and slithery and I did not feel good at all- I use Sure and this does not happen. I know no deoderant can totally stop you sweating (trhey do try by adding micro-particles to your skin which works by plugging pores- and then mixing with the sweat to turn into a paste or gel and so stick to your skin rather then drip from you) but with Mitchum, the slithery film was not something I could tollerate, it was not something I had ever experienced before-

    Did I use it wrong?

Which Mitchum? I never got on with the stick and reverted to the roll-on: never tried sprays. Don't apply any deodorant right before you train, apply it earlier in the day so it has time to 'sink in'. I find Mitchum by far the most effective for keeping away smell more than keeping one dry. Frankly it's being stinky that gives me the fear! :o

If you want to noticeably reduce wetness long-term you should try one of the prescription/ pharmacy type anti-perspirants that you apply at night and wash off in the morning. With perseverance they do work well (I am a fitness instructor, and sweat freely anyway).

  • Hmm!

    Gillette razors for the husband
    Marmite
Twinings tea of many varieties (but we buy coffee raw and from an agent)
Coco Pops (the own brand ones just never taste right)

That's really all I can think of.

Hmm well I have a feeling it will be a long list lol.

PG Tips - can't have any other now
Warbuttons bread (wholemeal) - can't stand Sainsburys brown bread, white is fine though
Kellogs Cornflakes - In find Asda's is ok, but I shop at Sainsburys, whos cornflakes are horrible.
    Branded shampoo/conditioner
Options hot chocolate - nothing tastes like it
Heinz Ketchup - the other stuff not as nice
Lemsip - as mentioned in another thread - the own brand stuff does nothing to help my colds.
Clarityn - same as above, but with hayfever

I'm pretty flexible with food, but when it comes to health and beauty the only thing I'm willing to buy thats own branded is ibuprofen and shower gel.

    • Lynx deodrant for husband
    • Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner
    • Whiskers cat food {cat will not eat any other brand}
    • Herbal essance shampoo and condition - has not found any other brand cheap or expensive that works for my hair better than this one
    • oxo stock cubes
    • Warbatons bread - I really can not stand cheap bread, but i think it's more texture than taste.
    • Marks and Spencers Tomato sauce {even better than heinz} and HP brown sauce

This must be the 'placebo effect', though. Clarityn contains the active ingredient loratadine which is also contained in the exact same quantities in the generic versions of Clarityn. If you accept that it's the active ingredient in Clarityn that alleviates your hay fever symptons then it must follow that the generic versions will have the same effect.
