Just been and checked my credit card statement and insidious little sums are appearing on my statement, check yours as it appears dazzlewhite have a sister company but you should see a couple of letters 'CY' (could be Cyprus - see above post) at the end of the name. I spoke to customer services as I too fell for this scam :o:o but cancelled straightaway when the email came through telling me that they had charged me $9.99 instead of $3.99. I had a very lengthy conversation with the online contact at Dazzlewhite complaining about the T & C's on the second page. I've kept the cancellation document and the full transcript of the online conversation.

The funniest thing was that the alarm bells rang when the cc operator told me that I should ring Dazzlewhite after 2pm UK time. I asked how she knew when to phone and she said that they often had to phone and there has been lots of complaints

• I have been a victim of Extreme-white recently. I had ordered the “FREE” trial kit as per the website. I agreed to pay for the £3.99 P&P and got an email receipt for it. I never received the item and on the approx 7th or 8th day of the order, I was on my online bank account and noticed a debit of £3.99 and £59.99 and called the bank immediately to ask why was I charged £59.99 when I haven’t even received the item.
The bank told me they cant do much as I gave my bank details to the company willingly. I told them that it was a breach of contract if they did not send me the item and charge me the postage and the price of the item.

The bank decided to send the “disputed item” form to fill in and give evidence such as emails and receipts so that they can see whatever they can do. I then quickly went to the extreme-white website to cancel the order and received the email below.

Thank you for contacting Extreme White, we hope your experience with us has been a positive one.
Your next shipment on 09-09-2009 will be your final shipment. All your shipments after this date will be cancelled.
After your next shipment you will neither receive any more shipments from us, nor will your credit card on file be billed anymore.
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us at help@extreme-white.com.

I was confused as to why are they sending me another shipment on the 9th of September, so I decided to write to them as below:

I would like to inform you that I have noticed that you have debited my bank account of £3.99 and £59.99 for a FREE trial kit which was never received by myself. Could you please clarify what are the charges for.

I agreed to pay the £3.99 for the p&p for the FREE trial kit but under your "terms and conditions", it was stated that I should return the kit within 10 days of the order date if I am not happy with the product. I dont think that would have been possible if I have still not received the item.

So I decided to cancel the order from your website and I received an email (attached).

Could you please let me know what is going on because you will need to refund the amount debited from my account or I will have to take legal action for misuse of my bank account details.

I checked my account the next day and noticed an un-cleared funds amount of £59.99 and was so furious and called my bank again to ask what it was. The bank confirmed that it was the “service charges” from Extreme-White, I asked them to stop the payment immediately and NOT to clear it. So extreme-white were trying to get another £59.99 after I cancelled the order. The bank was quite co-operative and stopped the payment immediately and informed me that they will block all future debit requests from extreme-white. I have received the bank “disputed item” form from the bank today and will send them with the details to claim back my initial amount of £59.99 and £3.99.

I was surprised to see that they have scammed many people after I googled about the scam and the company is still trading without any problems.

I fell for this extreme white/dazzle white "trial". I kicked myself when I realised what I'd done. I have followed their cancellation instructions & now it looks like I'm going to have to deal with further charges.... the price of vanity is high!

sue.b1 - read my post above and cancel using the template letter from Consumer Direct quoting the distance selling regs bit too. You should get your money back, especially once they realise that you know your rights (30 day rule etc).

I sent the letter by email and had a reply within minutes acknowledging the cancellation and the £59.99 that had been reserved from my card was straight away removed.

I still cancelled my card anyway.

• I feel so silly as I'm always telling my partner not to fall for such scams and, guess what, I fell for Extreme White. I can't get in touch with them via their website - contact us, customer services, or cancellation procedures or even terms and conditions. I want to return the product and cancel the CC payments (I'm in touch with the cc company) but can't find an email for EW or an address.

Pleeeeese can someone give me this info asap?

m m thks

I know it's my own fault - I'm kicking myself. Just thought I'd put up a warning about Extreme White in case anyone else is as stupid as me :-)

Do you think it's worth contacting Trading Standards or the ASA to force them to display it clearly on their offer page rather than stuck in their T&Cs on a different page?

I would say it's a good idea to post warnings re. this type of situation but unfortunately it's a sad fact that people do not research companies/products prior to giving over their credit card details.

So your target audience are likeminded people who don't read terms and conditions.
• ..was just about to take up the free trial for Extreme White, but thought i'd google it first to see if it was a scam, and luckily came across your post - so thanks for saving me some cash!!! I was wavering at the £3.99 postage to be honest, I only like free if it really is, but it was well worth you posting the details you will be helping a lot of people!

Call your cc or debit c company and insist upon a chargeback being issued. They will give all sorts of crap about .goods received, you need to return, blah, blah' Let them waffle and then INSIST upon a chargeback..don't take no for an answer.

Then write to them comfirming your chargeback .

Don't let the cc co fob you off...INSIST upon a chargeback

Threaten to complain to the FSA/Banking Ombudsman.

If they still refuse, then DO complain officially to cc co and then when they still refuse, DO complain to FSA/BO [easy online form, 10 mins and job done]

You WILL get your money back....stick at it.

INSIST???????? You signed up for it!!!!!!!!!!!

I would suggest asking for help reasonbly. Credit card cos/banks don't lie. They can help but only under the card owners (ie, Visa, Mastercard) regulations. It can be longwinded but it is the only way to deal with these things.

Comments like yours, BFG, make me angry...GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!!
