Only perhaps as a try on. Everyone is free to walk at the end of their original contract or straight away if the new contract terms are unacceptable. Or if they give you notice you are on a new contract with anew term and you don't like it.

Is that the official line or just your opinion?

Worrying that there has been no repsonse to the query as to whether these customers would need to take on new 18 month contracts. Can we have a response from talktalk on this, please?

I had this letter too - not sure if it's just badly written, but they imply that they will be changing my line rental (from BT) without first asking permission, in addition to changing my package to one that would cost me more money! Phoned to clarify the situation, as I have been a BB/calls customer for about 4 years now and am out of contract, but the "helpful" customer service said I would be in a new contract and had no choice but to go along with it.

Have now changed to different calls and BB companies, getting better deals in the process and much faster BB connection. Am tempted to report them to OfCom for the letter too, though not sure whether that would be worth any more of my time. Won't be sad to see the back of TalkTalk to be honest, as they've done little to earn my custom over the past few years.

    Anyhow, rant over...

  • i got suckered in by the 'free' broadband, and ended up paying to get out of the contract as it was rubbish - a lesson for me! I now pay a fair price to another provider and get decent service - slowly i am learning the difference between price and value..............

It is well known that if a contract is changed in term, you can walk away from it [to the customer's disadvantage]. I have no idea what Talk Talk's official line is, but I put my opinion above TalkTalk's official line

Thanks, yes I know that, I was just trying to squeeze the " official line " from the Talk Talk Representative, obviously they don't want their customers or anyone else to know.
  • This is frankly scandalous. Why is the TalkTalk rep ignoring mine and Inactive's question? If you have nothing to hide, please prove it by answering this very simple question:

Will the people who are effectively being forced to migrate from their 'old' tariffs be required to enter into a new min. term contract? Yes or no?

Good point about hiding. They can try forcing, but it is a point of law that they cannot get away with it. If they answer that they will force, they are going to bring down all kinds of grief on TalkTalk. If they answer that they will not force, then they will effectively set TalkTalk policy into the public domain in such a way that they might lose customers. I would expect them to keep stum about this!

Absolutely. It doesn't appear like they have been on here for days. I'm hoping it's nothing to do with a desire to ignore 'awkward' questions.

  • Seems like these new deals DO incur a new 18 month min. contract. I'm emailing the regulator to see if they are aware of this business practice.
