I swear by Asda's Shades. And in my local tesco they are pioneerig a new luxury loo roll and for the time being only charging £1, don't know if this is in all Tesco's though! x0

I've changed my mind...I think. I felt Nouvelle recycled were the most OS rolls in ethic (treading lightly etc...), but as they haven't replied to my several months old email asking whether they'd consider paper packaging instead of plastic, they're off my list! I'm considering changing to whichever rolls still come wrapped in paper...I think Andrex do...but only in their 2-packs, maybe... OS, but not very MSE...dilemmas...0

It's akin to sand-papering your butt, she had a husband and three strapping sons and she kept her own personal 'soft' loo roll in the cup-board under the wash-hand basin.
She was a canny lady:money: as she knew that no man would dream of looking in there for it. she let me in on her secret and our two daughters when we stayed there with her on holiday. We were sworn to secrecy though. My girls used ask Granny if they could have some of her 'tracing paper' for drawing with when they were little. !
She had lots of wily ways to economise , and her loo paper was just one of them.:rotfl:
Her lad's never cottoned on and I never told my husband until long after she had passed on to the Great Savings Bank in the Sky:rotfl:
I knew someone who bought the "tracing paper" for her husband and son to use, while she and her daughter had good soft stuff! Both on display in the bathroom.
Even as a really young child I was amazed hubby and son stuck to that, but apparently they did!You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

as a kid it was always yesterdays newspaper threaded on a bit of string, on a nail, hanging on the door in the outside privy. :rotfl: :rotfl:
:rotfl: We had that too and the paper that the big jaffa oranges were wrapped in.
Andrex quality wnet down a long time ago in my opinion that's all I ever bought I now try all sorts and haven't settled on a fav yet.
I think all loos should still be outside.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

Marsh_Samphire wrote:My Mum visited my uncle in Holland last Christmas and brought home about 5 packs, each had 12 rolls, of Aldi own brand loo roll! She says it's better than any she's tried over here, even the puppy and the bear. I don't know if you can get it in Aldi branches over here though? Mind you, the amount she's got should last her till next Christmas!
We're all Aldi Aloe Vera loo roll converts here. It's about £1.49 for 4 but IMHO is much better than Mr T's. Shame it doesn't come in bigger packs.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

I once did a comparison between Andrex, a supermarket equivilant, and same cheapo supermarket stuff. I wrote down the price dates they were started and finished. From this I could work out how much they cost per day. The cheapo stuff actually worked out more expensive. I found with the other two, I used the rolls at the same rate so figured it was best to get own brand apart from when special offers make the branded stuff cheaper. Now I just tend to get whatever recycled stuff I can find.0

I switched to value (Tesco) a few weeks ago and was surprised that they lasted so long. They are softer than mid-price brands and no-one has complained yet!0

another tesco value convert here and at £1.14 for 12 rolls you can hrdly go wrong, not only that but the paper feels and looks exactly the same as there luxury paper (still got a roll of that left to compare) only slightly smaller size rolls!!0

My lot get whatever I can afford.
On Sunday I did a car boot sale and there was a man there selling household stuff one of the things he was selling was an outer of toilet rolls, Brand was Nicki, but they are quilted and feel soft.
I got 20 4 roll packs for £9.60., that is 12p a roll.
Bargain.
