I did read a tip somewhere about standing on your loo roll before putting it on the holder to slow kids down as it won't then unravel as easily.............might work :D
I've tried this and it doesn't seem to make much difference.

  • I've discovered my local bargain shop "Hypervalue Discount warehouse" or words to that effect, do a reasonable bog roll that is titled something like "Sharmin" as a rip off of Charmin. It's only £2 for 9 rolls so seems to be a good buy.

About once every couple of months I go and buy 5 of the packs (£10) since they're conveniently wrapped in bundles of 5 on the pallet they're delivered on.

Whenever I see tesco doing an offer of named brand with 3 rolls free or similar for a 9 pack I always think to myself "How much!!! I wouldn't wipe my a*se with that special offer!"
    lol...

I buy whatever is on offer.

At the moment Tesco's own brand (their 'luxury' type) is on special at £1 for a 4 pack.

The Co-op have BOGOFs on Lotus, so it works out at £1.89 for 8.

    If I can't find any offers I buy Lidl's - £2.39 (or thereabouts) for a pack of 9.

I never buy the really cheap ones but I don't buy Andrex either. I can never find a deal to match the others and I can't see what the fuss is all about. Not worth paying the extra anyhow.

At the moment I have over 40 toilet rolls in the house. I'm okay for a while if a toilet roll shortage comes about. I don't want to spend an absolute fortune on something i'm going to flush down the lavvy. :o
Has anyone tried lotus? I just wondered if the "cleaning balm" worked!!!!!!

I saw some Izal on the shelves the other day - ghastly stuff

I agree it is rotten stuff, my late Ma-in-Law used to swear by it, as she said" if you have that in to loo then no one will use too much" !
It's akin to sand-papering your butt, she had a husband and three strapping sons and she kept her own personal 'soft' loo roll in the cup-board under the wash-hand basin.
She was a canny lady:money: as she knew that no man would dream of looking in there for it. she let me in on her secret and our two daughters when we stayed there with her on holiday. We were sworn to secrecy though. My girls used ask Granny if they could have some of her 'tracing paper' for drawing with when they were little. !
She had lots of wily ways to economise , and her loo paper was just one of them.:rotfl:
Her lad's never cottoned on and I never told my husband until long after she had passed on to the Great Savings Bank in the Sky:rotfl:

Andrex for me everytime. When i'm wiping my !!!!!! i want something puppy soft. I don't want to be using that school tracing paper stuff where you end up with a decorated back and i want something strong enough to prevent my finger going through and a nasty surprise.

    Too much information methinks
as a kid it was always yesterdays newspaper threaded on a bit of string, on a nail, hanging on the door in the outside privy. I never hung about in our lav as it had the biggest spiders in the east-end.They were like HUGE dinner-plate sized things with hairy legs .Boy in those days I could run faster and wipe quicker than any in our family :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have to say, having said Nouvelle is the most OS, this week I have instead kicked into MSE mode and gone for the Tesco Luxury at £1 for four. I feel terribly guilty 1. because they're not recycled, 2. Because they're Tesco. But I'm on a bit of an economy drive, and there's no offers on the Nouvelle in my Costcutter this week, so I've saves £1.32 on eight rolls...and that's one day's travel to work...

LOL Jackie! When I was a kid we usually used "Bronco" and it too made great tracing paper as it was a bit less shiny than Izal! My Mum wasn't half thrilled when Andrex came on the market! :D

I could tell a few tales about my mother and toilet roll :D We never had toilet roll on little cardboard rolls when we were kids, it was all in squished up balls as mum used to load her handbag up with it whenever she went out anywhere. She would just pull on the roll until it was emptied and then ball it up and shove it in her voluminous handbag :D
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
