Edinburgh is actually a long way down south for us. Its actually not in the north of Scotland at all (have a look at the map theres a lot of land above Edinburgh) its in the central belt.If you said to people in Edinburgh that they were in the North of scotland they would probably think you've lost it a bit Even Inverness is down south to us.
Have a look at Google maps Edinburgh is definatly not in the North0

I spoke to our postie yesterday about the strikes. She said its the Militants Down south. I don't know the ins and outs of the reasons for the strike so cant really comment. I know our local post post wont be effected but obviously anything i'm sending down south could be effected
South West is OK though (so long as you don't go as far as Bristol ) They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 ) They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

I truly sympathise with everyone who is getting messed about at the moment. There is nothing more frustrating than paying for a postal service that cannot meet it's mandate.
Royal Mail has trimmed its front line staffing levels to the bone. There is a recruitment ban on at present and staff have been given impossible targets to meet. Morale is at an all time low.
Posties really do consider themselves lucky to at least have a job nowadays but Royal Mail (like many other UK employers) have taken full advantage of the recession and unemployment figures to pressurise/bully their staff. Managers are stuck in a time warp and are blinkered by the fact that they may lose their bonus money.
I have witnessed trolly loads of parcels left in a depot as there are no staff to deliver them. This is Summer time when the mail level is considered to be low. I can only see strike action spreading nationwide when mail volume increases in October/November.
As for comments about sacking all the staff and giving the jobs to those who want to work - that's a little unfair. All the staff where I work want to do their best but at the moment we are all being treated like slaves by a very cloth eared and old fashioned gangmaster.0

I live down South and have had a full postal service today despite my delivery offices apparently being the ones on strike, all the post boxes are open as well where usually they are closed with a wooden barrier type thing on strike days.
No trains though..I'm just pleased i am on holiday and didn't have to spend 2 hours getting to work again like I did last Thursday and Friday.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yes, I agree that it's south of Scotland (I've stayed there and very nice it is too!). But ask anyone in the UK to name a place which is "Down South", I'd very much doubt they'd say Edinburgh!
When I said "up north in Scotland", I left a comma out. It should have been "up north, in Scotland" i.e. north of the UK, not in the north of Scotland.0

Lst time I checked Edinburgh was up north in Scotland. Or do you live so far up there that as far as you're concerned Edinburgh is "down south"?:rotfl:
so thats 1 delivery office and 1 mail centre in the whole of Scotland0

I bet if it wasn't for Ebay the Post Office would have gone under years ago.
Bring back Maggie Thatcher (hell, never thought I'd hear myself saying that..) When the posties threatened to go on strike when she was around she said "Right then, I'm going to take away your sub-£1 monopoly". That shut them up!!£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

My mum spoke to our postman today to ask what's happening, and he said that in our area they were just going to miss certain streets out each day.~When you wish upon a star~:heart2:0

going on strike? it's a wonder they have any mail to post, just had another two packages literally thrown back at me in my local post office and refused to accept them, why? because i paid for it online.

and the postmaster told me the post office is nothing to do with royal mail....hmmmm seems royal mail disagree as they quite clearly state they own the post office on their website.

no wonder the royal mail is having problems and strikes one department clearly can't communicate with the other.

As i said to the post master, if you don't want to accept parcels don't run a post office, same goes for the posties if you don't want to deliver letters get another job.

i had sympathy for them at first back 2007 but now it's just bollox, if your so unhappy get another job and stop aimlessly disrupting the UK's mail service.

 Rant over! 0 0
