Just to update... I Used Frontline on all the cats and RIP round the house, but spent the last few weeks watching them scratch while I got bitten myself! So, back to vet and used Advocate today on them all......finally no scratching from the furry friends...but the bloomin fleas are still eating me! So tomorrow I will do the whole house with Indorex and hopefully that will be it.

Hi, quick update - took DS to Dr's yesterday and the most positive thing he said was 'well it doesn't look like scabies' I will take that as a good thing! He seemed a but unsure as to whether it's flea bites, mossie bites or something else cos all the spots are different. But he said to keep going with the calamine lotion and get him some piriton for kids and to go back if they get larger or more red.
Went through the cat again last night but didn't find much, had a good hoover and sprayed the inside of the hoover.
Also got a mosquito repellent for DS's room.
Caught one in DS's hair this morning and we're playing a game with it and giving him 10p every time we catch one (only way to get him to sit still while we go through it!)
I also put some bowls of hot water down last night and this morning we had caught 3 so will keep going with that.
Spoke to a neighbour who has them as well so I think there must be an outbreak around
The cat is due some more frontline next week and then I might try a different spray. Someone mentioned not turning the heating on until the fleas had gone - if it gets cold is that an option??
    Thanks for all your help:T:A

hiya, mossi bites do look similar to flea bites, but I thought a Dr would be able to tell the difference:confused: I hope your DS is getting some relief from his bites with the calamine lotion. I have several more bites this morning and they are so itchy. They must've got into my bed again:rolleyes:

I think it was me who mentioned I wasn't going to turn on the heating until the fleas had died. Not sure how cold it has to be for them to die though, but my house gets very cold in the winter. I would prefer to freeze than be bitten though.

Even if your house is freezing, when you turn the heating on the eggs will hatch out again

Nope-the eggs will just stay dormant until the conditions are right for them to wake up and turn into larvae. The cold won't kill them

Exactly what she said above. The eggs are extremely resilient and can lie dormant for years. Some people get a flea infestation years after their cats and dogs have died!

Hello, just thought i would join the thread! the only thing guaranteed to get rid of fleas is frontline - trust me i have been there! The vets will suggest frontline and a room spray they sell. I have had cats for years and i have never known frontline to be on sale as it is a pet product although i did come across this sale a few weeks ago (not sure how long it lasts) but i have stocked up. I hope this helps you animal lovers out there

I got Frontline Spot On from VetUK Ltd through Amazon so I was able to use some Amazon vouchers that I had from various survey sites.... got drontal worming tablets too. Well chuffed! Have used VetUk Ltd before, they're very good, and quick to deliver.

Not any more it isn't, my flea infestation is Frontline resistant  I'm gong to have to take all three cats to the vets to get Stronghold or something else that is prescription only.

Fortunately the vacuming/Indorex spay routine seems to be helping in the flat, I just hope I haven't missed any dormant eggs.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D
