Well done on the Amazon sales! I forgot I had books list there and got a notice to say I'd sold one yesterday! Fortunately I've still got it on the bookshelf - it must have been lsited for ages
OH also sold my shredder through the classified ads ...... apparently his is better....Anyway I'd had it for ages and I'm sure it went for less than I paid for it so more for the savings pot.
Holidays are definetly worth saving and planning for - you need something nice to look forward to or its easy to fall off the MSE wagon
Take care!
LMortgage as at March 2010 £225,000 target for December 2012 £170,000. Blog link http://beautifulorpractical.blogspot.com/2010/07/oh-this-is-all-new.html :j0 -
Irritatingly I couldn't find the CD, so have had to cancel the sale. I feel awful, I'd hate it as a buyer if someone did it to me, and stupidly I didn't email them before cancelling the transaction, and once I'd cancelled, I didn't have access to their details......if you're reading, mystery buyer, then I'm SORRY!!

Hooray, another DVD bites the dust on Amaz*n and this time I know where it is
I think this is going to be an expensive weekend for me....have bought 3 of the $anctuary boxes on offer at B00ts this morning, and initially thought I'd have one for me 'cos I'm worth it...but then remembered someone else who will deserve a nice pressie from me/DD at christmas, so that's blown that one, lol. I have bits going on this weekend whilst DD's away that will set me back a bit, but I'll try and keep a looseish lid on it(famous last words!!)
DD's gone to grandparents, so I've been making 3 banana loaves, one a new HFW recipe that looks a bit odd, the other 2 my usual favourite. I've also got some tomatoes stewing down on the stove for turning into chutney for Xmas pressies/me. Going to make my bro a foodie hamper as he fancies himself as a bit of a 'Jamie', and will get DD to make some peppermint creams or something friendly like that to add to it.0 -
All quiet on the western front....have moved £16 expenses payment into the pot and am expected £3.45 or something for my DVD sale to come through soonish....
Must start doing daily blicks or free bingo, need to have a read up on how to do it properly!0 -
Hi Kittikins
I'd just like to say how marvelously you are doing by attempting such a challenge, just think how much better off you would be when you finally reach that goal? Please keep it up.
I managed to finally pay off all of our debts earlier this year except of course the dreaded mortgage and as it happens to be my birthday tomorrow and realising that I'll be 50 in 7 years, what nicer presy could I give myself than to be mortgage free by then? You have definitely given me something to think about.
I suppose we have just made the right start as our mortgage came to the end of its fixed rate in September dropping from 6.1% to 1.5%, a saving of £170 a month!!! So I rang up and arranged to make over payments of £70 a month and would have done more but we have so many outstanding jobs in the house that we need to get on top of, but anything is better that nothing. I will have to try and work out what we need to over pay on a £70,000 mortgage if we have 16 years to go but want to reduce down to 7 years?
Will keep you posted and keep up your good work.

According to THIS calculator you should be paying around £413 a month for 16 years. To reduce to 7 years it would be £884 , of course that is assuming interest rates stay the sameA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Thanks for that Gallygirl, not sure when we'll be able to make double the payments just yet, but by cutting back more and trying some new ways of earning we might be able to find the extra before long. Now I know how much we should be overpaying it gives me something to work towards.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow ILS  Thanks for stopping by, it's always very exciting to know that people are reading my little tale of attempting to have a less scary mortgage. I hope that you will be able to find good ways of raising extra cash each month without having a totally dull life.
For me, selling as many books/DVDs and CDs that I'm never going to want to read/watch/listen to again has been great. I'm clearing space on the shelves for photos, plants and nice things and have made a fair amount of money for old rope!
However, to be honest, I feel like a total fraud at the moment as I have so little "spare" income in general and by booking, admittedly cheapy holidays, I have been taking away from my potential mortgage savings....
But, the sooner I can save enough up to pay for the 2 holidays I've booked and know that the money is safe in the bank, the sooner I can restart my personal challenge and then put all spare pennies straight into the mortgage. Thank heavens I talked myself out of a holiday to Italy with DD and booked a cottage in Devon that's less than half the cost! That's a virtual saving of over £400 :rotfl:0 -
It is nice to have a holiday planned, I feel as though I could book one right now. It gives you something to look forward to, but unfortunately as a family we were not suppose to have one this year, but we did as we were offered a very good deal to stay in an apartment belonging to a friend's mother, and now I feel guilty because it was abroad and it hasn't helped the bank balance. So next year we have plans just to stay in the UK somewhere so there are no air fares. We do love the english countryside and I don't even mind the rain. (Strange I know).
I have been trying that '100 day challenge to make £1000' and since I started following it, although I never joined, I have made £800 so far and have only been going 66 days. It is quite easy to do as it works out an average of £10 a day to be made on top of any normal earnings that would come in. This can be done through selling things, using shopping vouchers, cashback sites, mystery shopping, anything. Have a look at what some of the others do it gives some good ideas.
I'm looking forward to seeing Martin's new programme on Friday night about Britain's thriftiest people, hoping to pick up some tips from there too.
