Do you require permission ?? is that not implied when the goods are displayed and prices displayed.
Of course you would not have a receipt, but again how often do you pick up the receipt if its a one off purchase?0 -
There is no right to purchase alcohol, people can refuse to serve you.0
-
If the alcohol is there, with a price on , its an invitation to buy
I accept that invitation
slap down the cash ... and walk. I have the bottle /can in my hand .
What crime have I committed ( apart from being followed by my son/daughter)
Don't get me wrong , have full sympathy for the poor cashier , but am I guilty ????0 -
I know its an inconvenience but I would prefer that to my teenage daugther choking on her own vomit in the gutter because she had drunk a bottle of vodka an older friend had brought her.
Good on Tesco for protecting minors before profit. Or protecting their drinks licence at least.
OK, probably not. But my point is that once they have been refused a couple of times, the younger ones will wait outside whilst the older ones buy booze. It's not that difficult to work out. Once that happens, then the policy will do nothing more than annoy people who have to go shopping with their children.0 -

Yes, I know, when they are refused "a bottle of vodka" in Tesco they don't think to go to another shop to purchase it, they normally say "Oh dear, we have been refused service when we really wanted vodka - what are we to do?".
So your teenage daughter will remain protected.0 -
I don't have a problem with being ID'd. Not that I'm at that age these days, the checkout staff aren't the organ grinders
I do have a problem with people being refused when with children when its clearly for the adults consumption. A parent with a 12 or 13 year old child beinjg refused service is insane.
Will Tesco also stop selling knives and cigarettes to the same group of people?
The over zealousness isn't checking the ID of the 25 year old its the refusal of the brother, sister, family friend, daughter, son with them that is absolutely insane and the robotic checkout staff clearly need training on the subject0 -

It's understandable if the cashier sees a young person, who might look as old as 25, but could be younger. But if they're serving someone who looks like they may look as young as 25, when they are clearly older, and certainly not under 18, they are obviously not using any common sense at all. A 35-year-old might, if they're lucky, look as young as 25, but they are never going to look underage, are they?
And then you get the ones who refuse to serve a 22-year-old who has provided ID, because she's under 25. Or the one who won't serve a person because their passport (proving they are old enough to buy) has expired. Or the person who has a child in school uniform, who cannot provide ID to show the child is over 18 - when she clearly is not and no one was trying to pretend she was.
I've only been questioned once, so far, and that was when I was asked for ID for my 14 year old daughter (in her uniform). Sadly, no one will ever ask me for ID of my own! However, if it does happen that I'm refused alcohol when shopping with my children, then I'll just leave my shopping.0
