I do however loose the little patience i have when our local sainsburys store start writing down your date of birth, your address, a description of you and other things like that on a "challenge pad" which is kept behind the till, particularly when it involves the supervisor in the silly headset coming over to do it while everyone in the queue behind you gets more and more wound up (one man started tapping his card on the counter and clearly wanted to have a go about the time he was being held up for), the real !!!! take is that the other half of the time you go in, you don't get asked for any ID at all!.
I don't know why they are writing all that sort of information down, the box does say description of customer but we are told to write in that. ID Shown and what ID is was, or No ID - No Sale. I have noticed a trend recently though where people have started writing the year of birth down, but I haven't been told to do this so I'm not sure why others are. It could be down to who did the Think 25 training with them.
The reason the supervisor is probably doing it is down to the fact the person serving you is under 18 so it has to be authorised by a supervisor.0 -
Happened to me last weekend in tescos, I'm 33 by the way,Done my weekly shop with my 5 yr old and was refused sale of beer by assistant for same reason...guess what the £85 of shopping the assistant put through the till stayed at the checkout for someone to put back on the shelves whilst I walked out of the store and went to asda with no problems.0

Is it so onerous to take a card out of your wallet?
It is when at almost 36 and never having needed one for the previous 18 years you find yourself in the position of having to buy some form of photo ID just to appease some over zealous cashier.
Its not about that though as much as the stupidity of refusing to serve parents with small children on the grounds they could be buying alcohol for them. There seems to be little common sense with this rule, and common sense is needed for the scheme to work efficiently.0 -
Just been reading through this, and it has just popped into my head about the ID cards the government were going on about.
There was all that fuss about everyone having that new photo ID card, which all flopped did it not?
Maybe the government / authorities have been told to push on this issue to try and bring the photo ID cards back in?
Or maybe I am being a bit to dramatic?
It would seem that if everyone needed to prove there age when buying alcohol etc, they would need some ID. Not everyone has a passport, drivers licence, or other photo ID, so this would be a good way to force the ID card on us.0 -
What would happen if you put the exact money down in cash , picked up the alcohol and walked out??0
