You can take as many as you can fit in a transparent re-sealable bag of no more than one litre capacity (e.g. 20cm x 20cm ziplock freezer bag). (AS taken from RyanAir but it says the same on most of the airport sites as well!)
You can take a total amount of liquids and Gels that is 1000ml or less.
Some airports are getting very strict about bag sizes, so double check the airport's website.

I recently travelled with Ryanair from Manchester to Dublin. On both occasions Ryanair staff at the boarding gate were randomly asking people to put their bags in the 'check it fits' cages. Luckily I managed to squeeze mine in after sitting on it - getting it back out of the cage was a bit of a struggle LOL. So just a warning to people that it's really worth getting a bag the correct dimensions or it's quite likely Ryanair will nobble you for £30 at the boarding gate!
  • Don't just wear your heaviest clothes - buy a multi-pocket cargo vest and FILL it up! There is a Canadian firm offering one that will take 30kg of stuff including a lap top but I wouldn't pay $300 for it.
  • To Martin :money:, there is a mistake in your table on baggage allowance.
The weight for carry-on baggage allowance is "unlimited" on easyJet (not 10kg) and 10 kg on Aer Lingus (not 6kg). Have just checked their websites.
  • If the Budget Airlines rely upon ICAO/IATA rules if they crash and kill you then they are not allowed to change those rules applicable to Baggage which means that Passengers are being ripped off unless the Budget Boys
do not fly under any International Regulations.

On an Easyet trip out to Barcelona a couple of weeks ago, people were being made to put their bags into the size-checking device just before boarding. A couple of the idiots whose bags were too big had to check them into the hold and pay extra.

Shortly off to France with my 10 month old son flying with Ryanair. Have found a 50litre rucksack in Argos which is more or less correct size for hand baggage, not planning to pack it to bursting so should easily squish into baggage check cage if asked. As I'm travelling on my own there was no way could manage baby, pushchair and trolley case. Fingers crossed.

I generally take an amount of washing stuff with my, shampoo, handwash, soap, that kind of thing, as I have skin allergies.

It's small, but it's heavy. Used to be that would go into my hand luggage, with easyjets size but no weight allowance that worked fine.

Then they stopped everyone taking liquids through security so I have to put it in checked baggage and pay a fortune.

The liquid/gel allowance is 1000ml, BUT each container of liquid/gel must not exceed 100ml. Do you need more than that because of your skin allergy?

You can do 2 separate bottles of shampoo 100ml each, if you need a total of 200ml for your trip.

  • I regularly travel hand-baggage only, sometimes touring for up to 2 weeks at a time. I always save the free sample sachets out of magazines for this purpose, and deliberately take only older shoes, towels and clothing, or cheap items I have bought in carboot sales or charity shops, which I am then happy to leave behind en route. This lightens the load, too :-)

LUSH do solid bars of shampoo - perfect for getting round the liquids problem.
