I have just had a look at Energy helpline and it shows that at the end of price protection I would be 18% better off moving to Edf energy "Online5".

Will it pay to switch now or on 1st October when protection finishes? How long does it take to switch?

£20 on Quidco with Uswitch and Moneysupermarket!

    Hi Fortyfoot

The Price Protection tariffs ending on 1 October 2009 do not have cancellation charges. Therefore, you can switch before the end of the plan without picking up this type of charge.

However, you will not receive discount on the final bill so you might want to time your switch to lessen the impact of this.

Switches can take between 4 and 6 weeks to complete.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Hi Malc

Can you explain what you mean by discount on the final bill please. Just looked at my original paperwork for price protection 17 and it doesn't mention any additional discounts other than paying by direct debit and dual fuel.

    TIA

    Hi Shaanbles

Whatever discounts customers receive, such as Direct Debit and dual fuel, are not given on final bills when customers change supplier.

This is confirmed in our Terms and Conditions.

Hope this answers your question but give me a shout if you need any more info.

    Malc :)

Hi Malc, thanks for the unbiased info. What will Eon be offering, is it published yet? 18% is a big saving + cash back. The final bill for the summer should not be too high.

    Hi Fortyfoot

We don't currently have a Price Protection tariff similar to your present deal available.

There are a number of alternative tariffs which you can see on our website. All have varying prices and rates of discount depending on the product and the region you live.

The only one with protected prices is Energy Saver 9. This is a fixed term contract that protects prices until 31 December 2010. However, it does carry a cancellation fee if the contract is broken before the end date.

These tariffs are on the comparison sites so you will be able to see how they stack up against other suppliers.

    Hope this helps. :)

I am in the same boat, my price protection ends on Oct 1st and I need to shop around. What actually surprises me is that E.ON (to use an example) don't do more to try and keep their customers.

I am pleased that company representatives are being honest etc but you would think more would be done to stop people from switching to a competitor.

I'll third that. I've generally been happy with Eon for the number of years I've been with them but, unless they can come up with a good deal for existing when the price protection ends, I'll be looking shortly elsewhere for a cheaper deal. The added advantage of Tesco points just ain't enough no more!
It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?
