unfortunatly i have fallen for the same i paid £65 last week and rang today they said the lender had till 6.30 to contact me and not to deal with any one asking for an upfront payment also sent an email warning of potential fraud well so far i am reporting them to the FSA BBC Watchdog Dont get done Get DOM rouge traders and any others i can find i suggest that every one on here does the same lets face it if they deal with 100 calls per day and do nothing thats £6500 easy money i think i may just set up my own company :rotfl:

Unfortunately my sister has also fallen victim to this company under the guise of Validus Financial ltd (t.a. prontopound.com). They use northern financial as their creditor and are a subsidiary of City Financial. The registered offices for all three companies are the same:

    13A HYDE ROAD,
    WOODLEY
    STOCKPORT
    SK6 1QG

The MD for City Financial is the CEO of Validus. His name is Jonathan Smith and his linkedin profile is here (Say Hi to him for me if you have a premium account :D):
    linkedin.com/pub/jonathan-smith/b/913/37b

The support staff are completely unprofessional and the woman said that they do state that they take an advance fee on prontopound.com when you enter your credit card details. I had a look on the website and that is not the case. Nowhere does it say ANYTHING about a brokerage fee, or any upfront fees at all for that matter.

Like fotoguy, I have sent e-mails off to the FSA, the OFT, the Financial Ombudsman, BBC Watchdog, and Don't Get Done, Get Dom.

I hope the s**t hits the fan for these guys.
  • o dear i think i have been scammed a week ago i parted with £65 after i received a text telling me my loan was approved and a lender would be in touch after i signed the t/c which i did and returned well guess what loads of calls from Indian company's but not from my lender well i call city they tell me the lender will call before 630 pm guess what no such call and it has now been a week since city received my t/cs .
  • Thermomandave: Call up your bank/CC company and claim a chargeback saying you never authorised the debit.

Do you still have a copy of the T/Cs? If so, it would be very helpful toward my investigation if you would PM me a copy of them, I only got up to the card details part, and I didn't want to proceed further in case they try and charge it.

Also, I recommend e-mailing the people I contacted in my post above yours. The OFT have said that they are currently reviewing payday lenders and have sent me a complaint form to fill in to help with their investigation. I haven't received a reply from the other recipients thus far, but they should get back soon as well.

Hope everything works out for you mate.

Why do people keep falling for this ?
  • It's the 'in writing' bit. They don't teach it any more. It may as well say 'by semaphore'.
  • all i keep reading is why do people keep falling for these scams have they never fallen for something before
