Thanks for your comments. I was told that I had a loan of just over 15% APR. It sounded too good to be true - and it was! No such thing as a free lunch, is there? Of course I've had no reply to my recorded delivery letter. Now I'm going to ring them and leave my phone off the hook (unlimited calls) and hound them as much as I can. Know I won't get my money back but it'll be good trying.

Also, I have been in touch with Trading Standards, who said there was not much they could do unless there were a lot of complaints. So everyone who's been cheated by these people needs to complain to Trading Standards. Thought cowboys like these had been outlawed by the FSA.

When they get closed down due to the amount of complaints, they will spring open the next day with a different name. Who knows how many previous names City financial had before this one!

The only way to prevent these scammers making money, is by convincing people not to pay money up front for a loan.

Think about the ludicrousness of paying someone to lend you money!! doesn't stop people doing it.

As long as people are happy to pay money to obtain a loan, they will always flourish.
  • can somebody give me there address please? letters calls etc do not look to work so a visit in person may attract a refund!

I unfortunately have had dealings with City Financial. I too paid them £55 in June of 2009 and never heard off them again despite being told their "customer services department" would call and numerous calls I made to them then in October of last year I finally got in touch and was told I had to write in to request a refund but wouldn't be able to do that till June 2010.

I wrote to them on the 1st June 2010 and never received a reply so yet again I called up an spoke to a VERY UNHELPFUL lady who said "you aren't getting your money back" to which I replied I had never received any correspondence off them or follow up phone calls only to be told and I quote "that's your problem but I said you aren't getting your money back" then she hung up

That is what they define as customer service

I am just reading through the posts on this site and can honestly say I have dealt with most of the companies mentioned at some stage or another in my search for a loan, Whether it be Yes Loans, the Unsecured Loan Company, The Credit People, Mr Money or City Financial and have paid them a fee but with some of them I have managed to get my money back from constantly calling and writing to them. At this stage I have now given up my search for a loan as I have a CCJ that is due to be removed this year then I will re-evaluate my finances as I am aware that having a low credit score isn't going to get me any credit at all no matter what these "bad credit brokers" say
  • I applied to Yes loans a couple of days ago and received a text message from City Financial to confirm that my application had been accepted. I spoke to an operator there yesterday who advised me that I would need to pay £55 administration fee upfront to process the loan and that the money would be in my account within 3-5 days. The number I was asked to call was 0161 406 5910, this morning I was about to call up and make my payment but decided to google the number first as I was unsure about paying a company I had no documentation from. I found a number of people saying that City Financial is a scam. I called City Financial back to say that I would be happy to pay the £55 on receipt of the loan due to the comments I had read on the forum, the guy I spoke to said that someone would call me back - I very much doubt it!!! Unfortunately the lines sounded really busy in the background so lots of people are being ripped off right now. Thankfully my gut instinct had me check out the number online and due to the comments posted saved me from being ripped off.

  • I was applying for a loan through a "loan searcher" and i got contacted by this company, they called me up and said I had been accepted but there was an admin fee off £55 to which i didnt agree to as i thought that was strange but they took my house address and phone number, and which bank i was with, do you think they will try and steal my identity?
